Many of the flat bed carriers require owner operators to either furnish their own trailer or rent one from the carrier. The carrier often pays a higher percentage to those having more specialized trailers, but you will still either need to buy or rent a trailer.

Everybody pays for their trailer in some form or another. Even the places with "free" trailers figure it into the rate they pay

Does any have any ides about termination of trailer rental agreement. My ex dispatcher likes to break contract ( originaly signed for a year) and trying to blame me for the cause?
-
That would depend on whose signature ison the lease and exactly what the language is in the lease. If you are leasing the trailer how can the dispatcher break the lease?
-
Thanks for the message, I rented trailer from my dispatcher who was dispatching me and at the same time I rented his trailer with contract for one year. Now, there is on issue that come up and we disagreed on the way work was being done so he tolled me if you do not do it way than you need to return my trailer back ( I do not have trailer now and I could not go to work I am loosing $ )!
thank you for taking your time away from your day, appreciate any advice. -
What you are describing is exactly why I bought my own trailer from the start. There are extras I have to pay, but it's my way or the highway.
Everything you accept comes with a little but of something you have to give up in say of the matter at hand. Where's the balance is important too if you run for a carrier with a bunch of drop and hook freight. -
I was going to buy but did not have anyone to dispatch me so he said if you rent trailer from me for a year with contract I could dispath you . Now, problem? And there is more to the story, when I started i did some damage to his trailer and we both agreed we will fix ( i will pay) and now sudenly because of dispatching problems about the loads, he calls in and ask to have his trailer broth to him same day and he will call insurance. I refuse to bring the trailer in same day because I have contract sign in ( it is beeing fixed) And yes, he started yelling and leaving rude messages on my phone. I need to find out what rights I have and should I get lawyer or at leas advise because I am new in the trucking industry and he will try to take advantage of me ... I am looking at some trailers to purches as we speek.
Thanks for advise, -
A lawyers advice is a good idea at this point but either way I would go to another company NOW. If there is something in writing that says you have to rent his trailer from him as a condition of leazing to him he is in violation of federal leasing regulations. Try joining ooida and let theirbusiness services talk to him. Its $45well spent
