Ive seen all the posts about company leases and how to avoid them at all cost, but what about leasing a tractor from Penske or Ryder and pulling loads off one of the load boards? Is leasing from those two just as bad? I have no intention of leasing just wondering. thanx

Before you just pull a load, make sure you either have your own authority or leased that truck to a company so you can run under their authority. Ok so now that I said that I have seen people with those trucks and doing what you are saying. I personally wouldnt because of the costs associated with leasing them and you dont get to own the truck.

BIG difference between leasing ON with a company and leasing FROM a rental company. If you get a Penske...or any rental for that mater, you still need EVERYTHING to set up your own authority and become an O/O, you are just making the truck payment to Penske. You have to have run under your own DOT# if you have it more than 30 days.

Just like a lease purchase program from any major trucking company

Actually leasing from a carrier and leasing from Penske/Ryder/Paclease are NOT anything similar. When you lease from the major leasing companies they supply a truck AND maintenance. When the truck breaks they either repair it or replace it. Try getting service like that from Stevens or CRST!SHC Thanks this.

You're right they pretty much maintain the truck for you. Trouble is, it's very expensive. Unless one is pulling some high dollar freight all the time I can't see it ever working out.

Full maintenance leases aren't designed for "for hire carriers", they are designed for "Private" fleets who need trucks in their fleet to service their customer base.PhilaTrucker Thanks this.

You are correct, when I was with Pratt Industries they had Penske lease trucks, but we also only hauled our own stuff. Not to mention that Ron Pratt is one wealthy mo-fo

I was getting more at the point that you pay all the high fee's associated, but yet will NEVER own the truck.

UPS has hundreds of Penske trucks for their team operations. When I was there that deal was just starting but they were full service leases... take a look at those YRC teams... they are penske trucks, too IIRC.SHC Thanks this.
