I appreciate all the comments. Right now my search has been limited to the internet and a few dealers around the Houston area. My biggest concern right now is keeping my overhead low and finding a unicorn that isn't going to break me in the first six months. I would love to find an o/o truck that has been well maintained.

As has been said above ........ buying used is a crap shot. Over the years I have been lucky. I have bought old Schneider gear, Ryder cube vans, etc etc. I've been lucky. The maint records have been supplied, the door maint decals have been up-to-date ...... blah blah blah

Either way .......... it's a crap shot. Buy new with warranty and the ball is a bit more in your court. Buy used and you have the leverage of waving a few or a lot of big bills in the face of the seller.
    Catch the drift ?

I love the negotiation, that's why I buy smaller lots used. It keeps me sharp.

I just helped my cousin buy 2 dump trucks and a float trailer. We paid full for the dumps, but after 8 hrs of not budging, we got the float for $30 (tax) !

    'Luck.

Dont pay extra for the boat anchor. When they tell you about the APU, ask for repair records on it. You'll see what I mean.

If you can sort out your own finance and are serious about it, shoot me a PM. I would possibly be interested in selling my current rig instead of keeping it. I can honestly think of nothing it would need for the rest of this year. If it MAY need something, it has always got it. I haul oversize loads, which are normally the wind turbine blades in the summertime, or 14' wide combines. So a breakdown for me is worse than for most!

You get one year free roadside assistance with Roadside Masters when you buy a piece of equipment from Penske, we've been shopping around as well.

Don Baskin ( he sells used trucks ) in western Tennessee. His prices look good. He has some newer stuff. He advertises in the truck paper.
