Have a suggestion for you. Pay the driver 26% of the net to the truck. 1% for escrow. Money for the driver's personal expenses on the road. 1% safety bonus call it. No accidents, correct legible logs, turning in the paperwork on time, taking care of your equipment(keeping a clean truck, letting you know of small hills before they become mountains) etc. You might be surprised what your drivers will do for you. The escrow is sorta like a small personal account without drawing advances from you and the truck. The other 1 % safety bonus keeps building. Right after Thanksgiving cut the driver a check and tell him it's for Christmas. I drove for a guy in the late 70's and early 80's who did this and he had a waiting list of guys who wanted to drive for him. Nobody quit. You might get fired for screwing up badly and he would but if you did your job you got paid and that little 1% at Thanksgiving was a life saver to many drivers. I miss that old man. He was a hellion when it came to his trucks, but he really only asked three things from you. 1. Pick up your loads on time. 2. Deliver your loads on time. 3. Take care of the equipment. Come to think of it that's really not too much to ask. Good Luck whatever you decide to do.
Per cent pay ??
