Whatever. It makes no sense. -
per diem for the 2008 tax year is 52.00 per day. we may write off up to 41.60 i.e. 80%... without any burden of proof on our part.
yes by accepting per diem from the Company you are reducing their exposure to your S.S / MED.
also when seeking financeing the lending insti. do not incl. one's per diem pay.
some company's only pay a max. amt to their drivers per day not the total avail. from the government.
i have touched on the subject as best i can their are threads in this site that hash it over purty good just use the search feature here and it will bring them up.
have a great day ya'llSarcasm_PhD Thanks this. -
Another thing to consider is the time of the year. Maybe consider taking per diem until '09 because not enough time left in this year to accumulate enough deductions to claim for '08
Sarcasm_PhD Thanks this. -
In the Army we get a base pay ang housing allowance (both taxed) and then we get a sustinance allowance which is not taxed and come no where close to the $52 per day. If the gov't supplies out housing and food we lose those allowances and are left with just the base pay.

I asked my wife about this today. After thinking about it, she said I should call our accountant and ask him. He has done all our taxes for years.

I was hired by a company starting out at .32 cents per mile (I know, chicken feed but that's besides the point). I chose the Perdeim because in orientation they made it sound like a better deal. When I got my first pay stub the miles read as follows: On a 1,000 mile run (for example), 1,000 miles were paid out as .195 cents per mile which were split by .11 cents Perdeim miles. That only comes to .305 cents per mile. When I called the company and asked them why I was only getting .305 cents per mile instead of .32 cents per mile, and they claimed it was because I agreed to their Perdeim package. Still trying to figure this one out.

I take the per diem. I have paid so much into social security from my previous jobs that I am not worried about it from that stand point.
