Some of the companies charge you to administer per diem. This is absurd.
You should consult your tax professional about whether to take per diem.
If you aren't worried about a reduced amount going into Social Security that helps.
If your spouse works then the reduced income for the purpose of securing a loan usually isn't a big point.
There is a lot to consider. No one answer fits all.
