Got a serious question, I'm starting a new company Monday and this company offers mileage or percentage pay. How are the rates right now, and what's yalls opinion on both? I've never been on percentage.

First you need to say what kind off work you will be doing.
    OTR?
    Regional?
    ......

I get the hunch that it's just a way for the company to benifit; not the company driver.
They have 1 load and 2 driver options ($ or %). Which driver will be dispatched the load?
The one that will save the company the most money! Just a hunch.

I'd hope you know this but some guys seem to get upset over it when they realize it.

Percentage pay doesn't cover any deadhead. I've heard of some companies that will pay something after xxx miles but generally you won't be compensated anything for those miles.

Need an answer for this one, please. What kind of freight will you be pulling? Forced dispatch? Regional or 48? This is the flatbed forum, so I am assuming you're going to pull open deck. On the percentage deal, is tarp pay a flat rate or is it percentage also?

    Forced dispatch? Mileage.
Regional and short haul? Percentage. Especially if you're pulling OSOW. Mileage pay won't even be in the same zip code.
Percentage tarp pay. Customer put an extra grand for tarping, you get $270 to put a rag on.
Stick and brick and steel hauling? Better go mileage.

Based on the fact that there's not many companies out there that offer both pay scales to their drivers, I'm going to flat out guess he's talking about TMC.
And though I can't argue with @TripleSix 's logic, I know TMC's freight...take the Mileage pay....you most likely will not see many of the high paying John Deere tractor/equipment loads.

I drive for an oo for landstar. I get paid 42% of his cut. It works out to 27.3% of the load after fuel surcharge. It works for me. I self dispatch so it keeps me motivated.

No pay for deadhead doesn't bother me.
