If you as the employer were requiring him to pay for the drug test as an employee, he should not have considered working for you period.
It is your cost not his.

Yeah thats true you better pay the guy something.. It's crazy you just cant trust anyone to drive your truck they wont take care of it and they dont care. This joker got fired in one day? I saw a thread on here talking about how bad companies are because turnover is 100% or higher the flip side of that and what no drivers ever talk about or admit to is that half or more of the drivers out there are worthless as the one you had driving your truck.

Roadmedic that cost is paid by whoever the employer decides will pay. Just because an employee mmay have to pay it doesnt make them a bad employer. I had to pay for my hazmat and background check a few years back when I renewed. Some companies paid for thier drivers to do that mine didnt. I dont consider them bad because of it. A $100 or $200 cost is nothing to get or keep a job I know mechanics and machinists who have spent tens of thousands off dollars on tools for their chosen proffession... The driver knew up front he was paying for it and dint have a problem.... if you wouldnt thats fine nobody's got a gun to your head...

That is nuts that he lasted one day and that was it! If you dont mind me asking what did he get fired for? I dont think you biting the bullet and paying him 16 an hour for 8 hours is fair on your part I would give him less then that. I would say a flat hundred bucks or so would be fair since you are already paying for the DT.
Injun Thanks this. -

LOL What a little baby... Come on now the traffic is not that bad especially if you know ways around the backups over on 80-94 byb the border and all the traffic backups on the 80-94/65S area. I love driving in Chicago anytime of the day but I can tell you I honestly dont go by some of the laws up there like the whole no trucks left lane sometimes. If there are people sitting in the 2 right lanes and not going anywhere and going under 55 I will hop out into the left lane and just cruise on by. Never got pulled over and I have driven past state troopers doing it.
If you have a good map you can get around most of the backups in Chicago as long as you know where the backup is before you get there -
Preemployment costs such as that are the cost to hire an employee. If the company is not solvent enough to afford to pay these, better walk away.
I am not referring to costs of the license that you keep to make yourself more valuable.
I have worked for other companies, such as ambulances. They require special training be obtained before hiring. If they have a preemployment drug testing, they pay for it.
I pay for the tests when I change companies. However, I am an owner operator. It is my responsibility. -
Well I explained to the driver today way i paid him and i took the lost for his drug test & insurance cost and he is the one that really owes me money . All he could say was #### & thanks for paying him. !!! And could I check on any other companies that would hire him as a driver for my truck !!!! He has not driving for a company for a year 1-1/2 been collecting unemployment, has two preventable accidents & was fired from his job before working for me because log book issues. He blow the job with me & a company in one day & thinks I would want him to still work for me.

I work for 27% of the gross less fuel sir charge. The truck charges $47.00 per ton, I load 27.50 (55,000 lbs) tons 47 x 27.5 thats $1292.50 x 27% $348.98. That covers from Victorville, CA to Rachael NV and back. The fuel sir charges is billed and collected separately, I don't see that anyway.
But yeah in the case's where the company gets a lower rate it comes right out of your pocket, But you have to take the bad with the good.
