Bingo Superhauler beat me to it. The ex 79 on I70 is the worst place I know. I had to get a permit to leave after a flat tire. The dick said 1500 if I didnot. Thats was country sheriff dot, works 8 to 4

Ohio set it's rest area parking up for wide loads. The spots will easily hold 14 wide. The funny thing is the multi axles parking. They will get into a spot, and jackknife the jeep and stinger to where the trailer forms the letter Z to minimize the parking area. I've dropped the trailer and bobtail to the truckstops, eat, shower and refuel then go back to the load. Problem comes in when you're trying to get out in the morning, and the on ramps are partially blocked. Ohio isn't that big, problem is Cincinnati metro curfew.
It is a pain. If you're really big and heavy, you will have a tough time in WV. There's that TA in Hurricane, with a sloped driveway that's extremely tricky when it gets slick (bad food too). There's a Peelot a few miles east, then nothing but hills. Last time I went through there, I stopped at that truckstop in Asbury, WV. Good food and good prices. Even had a cute waitress.Al. Roper Thanks this. -
How long ago was that?

Cincinnati's curfew is the same as the rest of the states metro areas, 6:30 to 9:00 am and 4:30 to 6:00 pm. That's for Columbus, Cincinnati, Cleveland and any county that touches them as well as the counties that Toledo, Youngstown, and Dayton are in.

I'm not trying to pick a fight but this may help someone in the future avoid a ticket. You "permit girl" is wrong, I emailed Mike Moreland with Odot special hauling permits last night and he responded this morning (remember I said I know them) here is what he said copied and pasted right from the email, I left out my part of it because I used my real name if there's any doubt I would be glad to screenshot the whole email and send it to you in a private conversation as long as you don't put out my real name.
"Permitted loads are not able to deviate from the permitted route that shows on the permit document for any reason except by order of a law enforcement official or the issuing authority. Fuel stops can be included within the routing if ask for at the time the application is submitted.
Regards.

I don't run in Ohio much but when I do if there's a need for me to leave the route for fuel, sleep, tire repair etc. I will and once someone writes me the ticket I'll be back in Ohio for my day in court.
I'm not going to argue it on here, our permit people made a big announcement to all of us when this was done at the harmonization conference and they all remember it so at that time I'll let the court sort it out.Last edited: Nov 20, 2015

I just can't believe they don't allow you to stop in need of food or fuel so I guess you have to have a food truck follow you and a portapotty on the trailer with over size as well as a fuel tanker

Well one can plan their trip so as to negate any need for stopping in the state however one can't plan on needing a tire repaired or something like that. If Ohio thinks I'm going to have a tire repaired on the side of the highway endangering myself, the repair person, my pilots etc as opposed to pulling into a safe facility then let them write me a ticket and I'll happily come back to see if the Judge thinks this ridiculous law needs to be upheld.Last edited: Nov 20, 2015
MrEd Thanks this. -
That's fair enough, but the email I posted is directly from the head of Ohio special hauling permits division. His number is right there his email is right on Odots website he the man who will testify against you if you take it to trial. If you do get a ticket " my permit girl said it was ok" is not an affirmative defense. I will say this is the group of guys who talk about how be have to be better and professional because of what we do everyday. So I want to know the law and make my own decisions, I'm the captain of my ship not my dispatcher, permit girl, or anyone else when I push the yellow valve it's my baby. When I'm wrong I'll admit it, about this I'm not.
