You are responsible for every projectile exiting the barrel, so if you're going to let one fly, you'd better put it somewhere meaningful where it won't cause harm to an innocent. There is no such thing as a "warning shot", because that hot lead is going to land somewhere. I'd rather it be contained in the torso of a perp instead of taking out an unlucky neighbor who happened to be standing in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Not only did the .40 cal bullet enter / exit her chest, it went through the wall leaving a small amount of blood / tissue splattered around the bullet hole. I found the bullet hole in the bathroom vanity and traced it into the wall behind the vanity. So yes.... Make sure you know where "your" bullet is going when you discharge it from your gun. It may not stop in the bad guys body. And I agree 100% with @Pedigreed Bulldog , warning shots are for scaring varmints out of the garden.
