Is that on-duty yard movement? Will it work even my 14hr clock had expired? Will it interrupt my off duty break?

If you can creep while still off duty, I would do that. If not, I would use PC "forced to move". Not legal, but easy enough to explain away as had to move as you were blocking a dumpster or gate or whatever.TokyoJoe Thanks this. -
We can use PC, moving truck @ 5 or over 5mph will kick in to the drive line.
-
And the 14 hour rule is for driving, has nothing to do with how long you can be on-duty. -
Question:
I am at a shipper and have 3.5 hours logged in sleeper while in the dock. I have 1.5 hours of shift time left of my 14 and 5 hrs of drive time remaining. The shipper makes me leave the property after being loaded. The closest safe haven is .75 hrs away. My delivery is 7 hours away from the shipper.
Can I go to the safe haven in PC then go back to sleeper to complete my 10 hr break?
Or must I leave the shipper in Drive mode since I still have available time? -
Another PC question:
I am at a rest area and have 3.5 hours logged in sleeper. My pickup location is .25 hrs away. I have 1.5 hours of shift time left of my 14 and 5 hrs of drive time remaining. My delivery is 7 hours away.
Can I use pc from my current location and go to the shipper? Then go to sleeper in the dock to continue my 10 hr break. Then return to previous location in PC to finish my 10. -
If you have available time left when you have to leave the shipper, you have to use it. PC is not available so you can increase your hours, but so you can get to a safe place to park when forced to move the truck. You cannot move a truck in order to enhance the operational readiness of a motor carrier under PC.

Here's the one that puzzles me the most...
I'm at the shipper or receiver. I finish loading or unloading. No on site parking available. I have 15 minutes drive time remaining & the nearest parking is 20 minutes away. -
Anyways, to answer your question since you have 1.5 hours left of your 14 you have 1.5 hours left of drive time to find a place to park. You cannot try to "save" hours like that when you have the time left. In your case find a safe place to park within that 1.5 hours and don't try and push it to the last minute to barely make that next truck stop with lines of trucks trying to find that last parking spot.
Now if the shipper/receiver ran you out of your 14 hours then you could use PC. So I would show yard move while at shipper/receiver and as soon as I got off their property go PC to nearest safe parking.
Others might want to chime in since I don't really use the 8/2 split so maybe you can do something with those 3.5 hours in the sleeper birth. However, i understood that rule as you had to take 8 consecutive hours off before you could use the remaining 2 hours left. I don't think you can reverse it to 2/8 . I just take 10 hours off.Last edited: Jun 28, 2020
