I drive bobtail home everyday from where I drop my trailer then back to there in the morning PC. I have heard if I run out of time on my 14 or 11 when dropping my trailer I can not PC home after that. True or false

That seems to be a company policy, unless somebody has read something I've missed PC doesnt mention HOS. I would say though it also ends up the interpretation of officer/judge if ticketed during that drive time.

I am the company, always thought it didn't matter either since PC is "off duty driving" just listening to road dog channel or whatever it is called the other day. They had a compliance expert on claiming that it was a wrong use of it. ( not on Rutherford lol)

I've seen it argued both ways including by DOT officers who did our compliance class with my former company.

I would say go to PC as soon as you drop your trailer and start to go home. It's your company, you can make the policy. ;)

Driving between home and terminal is “off duty”. So it is allowed when your clocks are expired.

However, they may claim that because your clocks are expired, you are “fatigued” and unfit to be at the controls of a CMV. depends on how heavy the badge feels that day...... but we’ve never had an issue with it during inspections.

I was told by a cop that if the DOT has put you OOS for logs you are not allowed to use PC, even if it's just to get some vittles.

That goes for a truck out of service as well. A driver placed out of service for hours of service violations cannot operate a commercial motor vehicle, PERIOD! A truck out of service cannot be operated. This is not a problem in most situations because the DOT officer that placed the truck or the driver out of service won’t physically release the vehicle. If they do and a driver later drives while out of service the fines can be in the thousands of dollars.
