I guess these Autoshifts have come a long way since I drove one back in 2006. (Bought a Maverick truck, sold it, and swore I would never drive an Autoshift again). But... I saw this youtuber TrainerJames has a Volvo that was SPEC'D SPECIFACALLY for the Haul Road from Fairbanks to Prudhoe Bay. Yep, just like you saw on Ice Road Truckers. It has a 16 speed Ishift. The only time he uses Manual Mode is when he's climbing Atigun Pass. When he got to the bottom, he flipped it right back into Auto Mode. I still won't OWN one. To me it's just another set of computers, and wiring harnesses that will cost me more than that stick poking out of the floor.

In that environment do you really want to stake your life on a bunch of computer crap or emission systems? Its your life that hangs in the balance.

I don't think they keep them long enough for any of those problems to happen.
-
Not 100 percent sure but 95 percent sure they only make a 14 speed i shift.
-
Regular I-Shift is 12 speed.
I-Shift with crawler gears is 13 or 14 speed.

Heck yeah, brother!

That's kind of the long and the short of it. I'm sure they are great for fleets who can afford to absorb those extra costs but for a guy who owns 1 truck, simple and reliable is what you want.Siinman Thanks this.
