Yep, makes sense.

Actually, I believe the trailer doors should be kept locked at all times. For two reasons. First, if everybody would always keep the lock on, it would be harder to tell if you are under load or not, possible lessening the chance of somebody trying to do a rip off of an empty trailer. Second, it keeps the truck stop trash from being dumped into your trailer by others. Yeah, I know, this sounds unbelievable, but I had it happen once. (Don't know who I ticked off, or how, but obviously I made someone angry. . .)

 

I drive a 1 ton cargo van and it has 2 padlocks on it 1 on the back and 1 on the side and i park it in the in sameplace whether i'm loaded (lot of times i'm not) or unloaded b/c if they see it in the same place don't know if i'm hauling $10,000 worth of copper, or nothing

 

Do you think it is safer to stop at a Rest Area or a Truck Stop for a quick bathroom stop? I am worried about this for the times I am driving at night and my hubby is in the sleeper. Both can be scary at night, but Id hate to wake him up and disturb his sleep.

Maybe I will carry my hammer with me...

 

I agree with what everyone has said, plus walk upright, pay close attention to your surroundings. don't go walking around in a dark parking lot reading or looking in your shower bag for something.

don't look like an easy mark and you won't be percieved as one.

be suspicious of anyone who shadows your movements, or changes thier direction of travel to more closely follow you.

one of the biggest problems of having a weapon is it can be taken from you and used against you if your not careful.

Col. Jeff Cooper used a color coded method of thought to prepare himself for potential battle. most of the time we're in "condition white" not prepared to defend ourselves, on up to "condition red" I may have to take the life of a particular person. he wrote lots of anecdotes about life and guns, and some of it was about personal safety.

 

Wake him up and let him know what you are doing !!! He'll understand. He better !! I wouldn't walk around at night in some rest area if you're a woman who is a little nervous. Always let someone know where you are going and tell them to pay attention!! Do not carry a hammer because it can easily be used against you. Carry pepper spray in your pocket.

A major well lit truckstop is much safer.

 

I don't let my wife go out of the truck at night without me. We have not as of yet had anything to fear, its just not worth the risk. If he doesn't accompany you, he should be able to watch you walk to the bathroom door and watch you walk all the way back.

I don't worry as much during the day, but after dark..... not worth the risk.

 

I recently saw a female soldier at a rest stop. She saw me get out of my truck. I was going to use the restroom and get a cup of coffee. As I approached her I saw she was a butterbar and I said evening maam just wanted to thank you for what you do. I identified myself as a former NCO. We talked for a few minutes and I never got close enough to her that she would feel threatened. As a female always be on guard, but don't over react to a situation. There are those that prey on people that seem scared. Carry yourself well. look around, be observant and move with a purpose, If you give off an intimadated vibe you are more likely to be a victim. Be safe out there. There are some of us, that speak to others and we have no intentions of harming you.

 

My hubby always got out of the truck with me at night no matter what. It's just not worth the risk. If yours is anything like mine, he'll be back to sleep in two seconds! LOL
