I try to avoid going into a rest stop or truck stop at night....I don't fear people like I used to, but as a solo driver I am aware of my surroundings constantly...:biggrin_25520:

I have yet to go thru training, so have not experienced most of the truck stop and/or drop/loading areas yet...but I have quite a bit of experience with various rough areas like the badlands in philly, much of south florida including miami; I even taught street smart classes to 1st-5th graders in some bad parts of philly and worked with at risk youth (sadly including many young felons) for a while. Best bet is to show awareness. Most street criminals seek out those persons who are totally oblivious of their surroundings. As an example, even though I wore headphones most of the time in philly, I still presented less of a target (because I remained aware of my surroundings) and passed thru an area easily, while my friend got mugged and clocked in the head when he walked thru the area drunk one night. And moving with purpose counts as well; even if I have no idea what I am doing, I try to look like I do (learned THAT from politicians!).
