you should pass on the job, seeing that this takes more skills than just driving a bus around like greyhound.

jp4c, you havent done anything wrong, and youre headed in the right direction with an attitude of being willing to get an education.

youre just seeing the portion of the crowd that likes to pick other people apart for no reason. none of them were ever incompetent beginners. They started off as seasoned vets.

For starters you should be taking the practice tests available on this website. Over and over and over and over and over again. Go get your permit and see if they have a lot that you can practice your pretrip in and see if they will let you lot drive this bus if they have somewhere to do that it. That would be a start and if you feel comfortable after a lil bit see if they will let you test in their bus. If you went to a CDL school (mill) it will get you done quick but from what I've read on here you won't really learn anything except the bare minimum to pass the test so if you can do it on your own go for it. Finding someone to personally train you would probably be tough, even more so in a bus.

Go to the local bus garage with some cash and see which professional driver wants to take you under their wing for a day or two.

Driving that bus is gonna be a precision endeavor.
A potential congressman will be wanting a perfectly smooth transit for sleeping, and for business.

Getting the training to drive and get your accreditation is the simple part.

Being adept at the wheel so that you can deliver... and I mean OVER DELIVER, in the comfort department takes years upon years of experience in a large vehicle.
Bridge spans.. rumble strips.. avoiding other traffic to eliminate the possibility of even a MEDIUM braking situation will be paramount.

Turning into a parking lot will throw someone out of the bed if not handled with the utmost care.

Driving long distances day after day when you've never done it before is exhausting.

    Good luck, Hand.
    Just some points to ponder.
I'm sure all will work out fine.

Those are good points. Everything mentioned will be accomplished easier by a person who remembers to ease along slow and deliberate with long blinkers, double looks at the mirror and good pre trip planning.. because essentially you are driving a parade float with people who will be standing and waving with a cup of coffee in their hand. Not a cab full of smelly creeps saying 'step on it' thru the red light at rush hour.

The hardest part may simply be the mental shift from your prior venture to your new one. Best of luck.

yeah true but then when someone who is wheeling around a 43 foot motor home with a toad into a pull through, it is a hell of lot easier than trying to squeeze in a 43 foot MCI into 40 foot spot with a crowd of people around.

I have a driver who drove one of McCain's or maybe it was Romney's campaign bus around, he said it was the most trying thing he did in a bus, so much BS and so much things you have to watch - this guy had 10 years as a GH driver before that. Just the scheduling was a pia.

To think that a newbie who has ZERO experience in driving a large vehicle can do it under stress and a tight schedule is really dumb.

Maybe so, but It will be mccain or romneys job to fire him. Mine is to aid the man who is trying to aid himself.

Then aid him by giving good advice. Not by setting him up to fail.
