Is driving a truck rocket science? I drive one and im not all that bright. A bus doesnt even have a trailer. Cdl holders maybe ought to get over themselves a little. My best advice is not to tell a stranger what they are and arent capable of so they dont make you look like a fool.

thank you, I have started taking the practice tests, have scheduled my dr.'s appointment and I plan to get my permit by the 10th of August, leaving me with 4 to 6 weeks of drive time before testing. I will be able to practice with our bus if I can find a cdl holder to ride with me and , preferably, train me. Thank you for your encouragement and advice!!

Many tend to forget that the safety of others matter than telling someone can or can't do something.

While your advice is valid if this was something else, here it is important to explain the reality of this world, putting someone in the driver's seat without proper training puts everyone around the truck or buss at risk for harm.

In this case the op wants to get his cdl and get hired for something that has responsibility of others lives without any experience doing the job that seasoned drivers had trouble with.

I will not take the job without the training. I have been driving passengers for over 20 years so I do understand the responsibility involved. In my favor, we will be parked most of the time, lol.

I’ll do it 20 a month plus expenses. I’ll drive it till the wheels fall off.
Not rocket science for sure but common sense is needed.

Not only does the OP need a class B license he also needs passenger endorsement, something the campaign might not want when they see the initial insurance rate for a new driver.

Either way his best bet is to find a bus driver willing to help him learn.

I wonder if the insurance requirements are any different than a school bus because all they take is inexperienced and that's a B with passenger.

I get that, the message isn't really about you but others who read it and think "hey it has to be that easy, I'll do that too" then goes out and kills someone. The members here think I am always trashing people but I want them to see both sides and understand this isn't easy as many make it out as.

See dude, I believe in safety, my life in on the line every time I get on the road and being in three trucking accidents, one caused me to get off the road, I am more than aware of what's going on with others. Also I have to make sure my drivers are the best I can get to ensure safety of others. I justnfired one this week for a stupid move of passing someone on anon ramp lane which was not told to me until Sunday. So the number of accidents with fatalities that we don't hear about, having someone without proper training and experience put everyone at risk but it also gives credence to those who want more regulations to ensure safety,

The one thing I don't remember seeing mentioned is insurance, the insurance company will have to know who you are and how much time you have doing the job and many will not be happy with a newbie driving a coach with high profile people in congested areas. I know if I hired you without proper training, my insurance underwrite would have a fit to the point of canceling me. And also seeing it is regulated, the carrier that hires you will have to do the same thing as we do with every new hire, and that may be an issue if you have health problems ... no dot physical.
