We ride with a 70 pound pitt. I won't go without him. Yes there are companies out there, although none that I know of that you can get into with no experience. And fewer still without a hefty pooch damage deposit. USX last I checked was $2500.
Be honest and get the weight exception in writing. That way a change in management won't affect your employment.
Big. Bed hog. Great guard dog. Rain, sleet, snow, slop - you'll be out in it and wiping it off your boy to keep it out of your bed. Exercise will be tough and they need it. We bring a semi-flat football and play "catch".
Set the precedent for your new career. Do it right the first time, every time.
Good luck

I don't understand how you can work 14hrs a day and worry about a dog at the same time. It needs to walk, eat, take potty breaks, drink water. It can't hold its pee for 4 hours or hold its number two, can it?
-
Don't let my Patriots see or hear you take along a nearly deflated football.
But then again, Tom needs a scapegoat..??miss elvee Thanks this. -
Ah come on now they are such a cute little doggy
They would hardly notice him in the truckDreamboat Thanks this. -
Actually our dog can hold his pee for longer than we can.. and # 2 is generally only one a day He is house broken He was in the house by himself from 9am till 10 pm not a problem .. I did let him out a soon as we got home and that extended period home alone is unusual but he has riden in my work truck since he was 12 weeks old now 6yrs old and doesn't get out of the truck for 8-9 hrs and never a problem .. We will be stopping every 2-3 hrs--> during trip inspections, pee breaks etc, so He will be getting out more than usual OTR actually ..
Taking a small dog I don't really think is much of an issue a large dog such as a mastiff very unreasonable IMHO.. ..Last edited: Jun 23, 2015

The problems you will run into is when you go to a company terminal or breakdown and you need to keep the dog out of the truck. He will be seen then. My suggestion is to buy or lease your own truck then this isn't an issue.

Dog owners here. Been with our employer for over 2 years now and never reported our dogs. We avoid terminals when we can and if we do go then we're careful. Our company allows pets so it doesn't look odd when people see us with a pet.
Anytime we get a hotel then we go with La Quinta because they don't have a pet fee or limit. With the company discount it's around $50.
The size and weight does not matter in terms of having it in the truck. What matters is the activity level of your dog. You as the owner know them than anyone else. If it's a laid back dog then it'll do just fine.
Any driver that reports someone who has a dog deserves to be taken out back behind the shed and shot. It's nobody else's business. Most dog owners are vigilant about keeping the truck clean.
