Hi all, been on here searching and reading for a bit. Plus always like to read everyone’s opinions on anything while I’m bored. But I need some help this time! Looking at a 96 Pete 379 tri axle tomorrow. 800k miles, (claims rebuild from previous owner but no paper work) 8 new tires in rear, drives are decent. Runs daily, runs strong, no leaks, GVW 73,280. 17’ dump box. Asking 35,000. What do you boys think it’s worth without seeing it obviously. Like to have some opinions before I look and make a deal. Thanks! Link below

Agreed. But a c-12 can be re rated to 430. I’m assuming I has be turned down from previous company

Assume there was no overhaul, no paperwork it never happened. Maybe it was and you get a lot of years out of it and I hope you do. But it could quit on the way home to.

I’m an owner operator with triaxle 379 pete. Mines a bit newer but that is a very clean looking triaxle. Your not gonna get a pete as clean as that as long as everything else checks out for 35k. Like I said, even for the year it is, and everything else checks out while doing a full visual inspection underneath the truck and everything else, it’s a 35k truck all day long. I run a c12 as well but mines a few years newer and have it tuned for over 500hp coupled with an 18 speed. Out pulls a lot of new trucks on steep grades.
These motors are very very very expensive to have a quality rebuild done by cat. Gonna cost 3/4 of what you pay for that truck so I would double check on that motor. Check everything. Check dump piston for leaks, check all driveshafts and I joints. Check brakes for eneven wear. You know the deal. Even if stuff is messed up, use it for negotiation.

I agree if some clown says he had the motor overhauled and then says has no paper trail, he is a pos. Walk away. My truck had no paperwork but was told it was complete full overhaul with all new everything by cat. All I had to do was call cat with vin to verify

I’ll never understand how people try to pull this off....you need the receipts for your taxes, how can you not produce them?

It goes something like this- I had this buddy with a garage that knew a guy. And another guy had the parts gathered to do his but sold the truck. I paid cash and got a good deal.
