When I start my truck after it's been sitting for a few days the air conditioning compressor generally will not click on. If I park at a truck stop for about 30 minutes after I've been driving a while and turn it back on it will sometimes turn on. If it turns on it will work all day flawlessly. However if I turn the truck back off it typically will not start again. I have checked the pressures and can confirm that they are at the high range of filled. Any ideas?
I have a 2021 and the ac wouldn’t always go back on after turning off the truck I talked with Peterbilt and they said to start the truck. Turn everything on. Then turn everything off before shutting off the truck and that would reset the truck Not sure if yours is the same but I did that and have turned off my ac before the truck and haven’t had any issues since
Just everything on then off then turn truck off Wasn’t any specific amount of time If I remember correctly I think I had to do it a couple times then it reset. Not sure But that was over a year ago when I first bought the truck and now I make sure to just shut the ac down before the truck
I agree I actually talked to one of the regional higher ups and when he told me that I had to comment on what a dumb way to reset the ac Seen a video of a guy resetting his warning light by turning the key on and of a certain number of times rapidly It worked on the video but again Dumb Just put a Control Alt Delete button on the dash
In an automatic, I wait about 15 seconds and then I hear a “clunk” like the transmission is dropping from high to low range. At that point whatever I’m resetting the truck for is usually working again. It’s a Peterbilt thing, the AC and dash lights are notorious for having to be reset by turning the truck off and back on. I think the ECM misses sometimes and has to be reset. My 579’s have been good trucks despite these annoying traits.
That clunk that you hear is most likely the fan clutch releasing onto the fan from a disengage state.
Always had trouble with my Peterbilt AC, or dash lights going out, had to turn off truck, wait a few minutes turn it back on.
