cheaper trucks=cheaper quality, you don't want to ride around in a piece of ####,it's like living in the suburbs vs. living in the projects.

Years back, I had transported some drivers to Performance Kenworth in Houston, TX in order to pickup some replacement trucks for our company's fleet. While we were doing the paperwork, the salesman was showing some pictures of C500s that he had sold to the Russian government, which by the way was the largest purchaser of KWs outside the US at that time. These trucks were similar to the pic WCP posted, with a LARGE fifth wheel, and would pull two tank trailers, hauling crude oil out of the tundra. When those trucks were delivered, he also went along with a couple of techs, in case of problems. While he was there, a previously rigged out truck had loaded, then broke through the ice on the way out. During the attempted recovery, one of two Cat D10 sidebooms had also broken through whenever they began lifting. As it was beginning to warm, they decided to wait until the cold spell, so the ice would support the recovery, so didn't hear if their efforts were successful. This was around 1997, before the "Ice Road Trucking" show, which made it really interesting for me.

Fast forward to around June of 2008, I had recently purchased a 2001 W900, which had a "suspension upgrade" (AG200 to AG400). The ride was HORRIBLE! I swung by Performance KW to have the truck looked at, and noticed there were eight of those big C500 trucks on their lot, and was told they were part of a fleet sale handled by the same salesman. I went up to his office to say hello, and inquire about the giants, but he was out of town. Those particular trucks were equipped with 3406E, (couldn't read HP tag), and 24 volt electrical. I am 5' 9", and remember the small running board below the door was even with my forehead. Awesome units!

    i'm a pete owner to the heart,but i love the 86" studio. i've got a 93' & 00" 379,i think the 93' is just as solid as the 00',as far as quality.

Unlike many, I dont care what others think of my truck. I get #### from my friends all the time about my over powered yard tractor (as they like to call it) while they are out running to pay for their cool rides Im taking 12 weeks off a year at home with my wife in our new house in the suburbs and finishing my 69 Chevelle. its really about priorities.mine is my checkbook. your idea of a piece a #### is my goldmine.

Comments like this are usually made by people who, never owned a FL, bought a wore out FL (which can happen with any truck), or are trying to compare a newer aero POS FL to a W9 or 379 (which is something you can't even do with a straight face:biggrin_2552:).

I understand where u r coming from.I drove my 96 FLD 120 for 10 yrs, could have used a paint job but a good solid trk.But I knew I would upgrade in time.So when the market fell last yr I was able to find a sweet 06 W9 72inch areodyne with door widows,475 cat,13spd,3:36 rears,LP24.5 with Seattle pkg and was able to pay cash for it.So now I still run about 105000 miles a yr and enjoy plenty of hometime. But alot of people made fun of my good old FLD and I'd just grin all the way to the bank. And now they're still making payments and I have'nt had to change my routine.:biggrin_255:

Everybody has their favorite.......just like cars and pick-ups.......

I do however rate Freightliners at par with Chrysler products......
Anyone who served in the Army in the 80's and drove those #### M880's knows exactly what I mean......:biggrin_2551:
