If I was a driver right now, I'd be buying an '03-'04 FL Century or Columbia w/ DDE 12.7 or 14.0, get em cheap and they will make money...of course they might be literally falling apart and ride like a fat hooker ;)

Peterbilt and Kenworth are 2 separate companies that are owned by Paccar. Remove everything from a Pete/KW NOT made by Pete/KW and what do you have? Let me answer that for you, you have the carcass of the cab. So, to put it simply in plain english, Pete/KW manufacture cabs, not engines/trannys/rear ends/seats/glass/guages/frames/tires/wheels/lights/fuel tanks/5th wheels/wiring etc. Do not fall into the trap that the marketing boys try to sell you on. Save $20 k and buy an Int'l. Just some friendly advice.

Back in the '70's, KW cabs made of fiberglass were built by other companies, one of which is a boat builder out of Kansas. KW, at least at that time, only assembled all the parts that they bought from every which other place.

If you want easy to work on get a western star and excellent room inside with the classic styling of a set forward axle.
I wouldn't touch a freight shaker due to the shaker part. I won't drive a Detroit as the
make me tone deaf (06 series 60 was the last one i will ever drive) and everything good people say about them I failed to see, poor reliability, and mileage out of a fleet of them.
I've never driven a Pete but I like the w9. The 389 the sleeper cap is some sort of composite the rest is aluminium

just spent a half hour reading all these posts...this one makes the most sence to me...I am a co. driver I have a new prostar do I like it NO...does it make me a living yes...I had a columbia before I liked it much better than prostar, did I love the columbia no...but it was reliable and more comfortable than the prostar..I have been employed at this job for 12 years we in the past only ran a few volvos very few kw t800s mainly all fld and columbias...to me a truck is a tool ...my brother was an O/O for many years he started with a GMC general then bought a t600 before they were cool then he bought a w900 he said the best money maker was the t600....if a man just wants to look cool I like the w900 but to make a living I would prefer whatever I could buy that was descent priced and dependable ...thats were I think the columbias come in ...are they top of the line NO...are they cheap yes are they dependable I think yes for the most part they would be a descent money maker...just my 2 cents..

Gotta love all these 'brand X will make you the most money' comments when no one knows what the truck is going to be used for. It's lime recommending the ideal calibre without knowing if it is going to be used for elephants or gophers.
