He will probably get his 25k people like hoods and if its really had an inframe and he has the paperwork he won't have a problem getting it.

I'm not a huge Pete fan either but also don't necessarily agree with you that it's all about the money. You should drive what makes you money and you enjoy driving.

Yeah, much better to drive what costs you $20,000 in repairs and down time, rides like a lumber wagon, and rattles so much I can't hear myself think instead.
I'm more than happy with my settlement check today and I like the truck I drive so much I waste another $40 a week washing it too.

I will add that any truck can be abused, not taken care of and not worth ####. I can't speak for the one the OP is talking about. But a 379 of the pre emission era that's been well maintained, is worth quite a bit more than most. Same with a W900 for that matter. More so if it's been overhauled already. Maybe not quite the $60s the asking prices are I've seen but pushing $50 isn't a stretch. Especially with a pre emission CAT. I specifically looked for just this and it took 2 1/2 months for me to find just the truck I wanted and I don't think I over paid at $38,000 at all. Asking was $47,000. They wouldn't come down lower than $41,000 except I so I pulled out cash and got the extra $3000. This was early august of last year.
Replaced a thermostat that stuck open last winter. Replaced the steers this fall after putting 120,000 miles on them. They were maybe 70% when I bought it. Drives were all new, no caps and still at 50% or better now. All wearing even. It had new shocks. Aluminum wheels. Texas square bumper. They suspension is solid and I had it thoroughly checked out when I did the steers. Oh, I did replace the bags for the cab this past summer. Dry rotted. Interior is like new, full gauge package, chromed out. Brand new elite driver's seat. 70" sleeper.
Windshield washer motor crapped out. Put new brakes up front with the new steers. Replaced a slightly leaking rear wheel seal at that time too. I'll be doing an overhead this month but I've put 150,000 on it. Oh, I just picked up the o ring for the drain line on the turbo that just started leaking a little oil. Other than that, no oil leaks and it only starts to use a little if I go past 10,000 miles before a change which I seldom do. I'm now at 977,000 on the truck, 500,000 on an in frame and I'm pretty confident I'll be running it another million with an overhaul maybe in another 200,000-300,000 which I will do long before I buy a new truck.
They are built to last and will if you take care of them.
Oh and I do close to 6mpg and drive 65. I'm optimistic on 6.5 after Mr. Haney does his thing in a couple weeks and I'm replacing the mufflers with walker magna flows. Other than that, I change the oil and filters every 10,000 - 12,000 and go.
Did I over pay? I don't think so. No regrets here at all.

Is this "Super Trucker" enough for ya? I comment about guys who think that having a hood and 600HP gives them some sort of street cred that allows them to treat newbs like trash. I don't consider anything under half a million pounds "Super Trucking".
