I would like to lower my steering wheel just a little bit to where it’s closer to my lap. There’s pretty much two options I see on doing this. 1) unbolt the four bolts that hold the whole steering column up and put ships under the bolts to lower the entire steering column and possibly get longer bolts or 2) remove the stop inside the spring for the tilt. I would like to remove the stop if I can and was wondering if anybody knew how to do this? And that stop is the white plastic piece in the pic that’s inside the spring.

Come on man. Oh BEEEEK?
Never did that but I would shim the column. When you get in to some of those tilt columns Pandoras box opens. Then you never get it all back in.
I do not like to move them from where I like them. If I have to slip seat in a truck maybe move it one notch. Very little trouble that way. Tilting them all the way to the top and back to where you like them each time the door opens causes a lot more failures. Some people are large and need to do that. Fine part of why we have tilt wheels. Other people are knob dickers. If there is a knob there they just have to dick with it. I suggest get it where you want it and leave it alone if possible.Copper2017 Thanks this. -

Ya a simple spacer where it bolts up to the dash crossmember is the best bet. I've seen aluminum tubing on longer bolts or a simple piece of wood with longer bolts. paint it black so it looks a little better. If you only drop it a little the plastic trim will cover most of it.
