A Volvo D13 with I-shift would be better.... maybe white in color.
Trucker61016 and slav Thank this. -
Thats way off the topic.

Hard to have a decent conversation with all the trolls... I know that the main thing with those Cummins engines to run decent is to idle a minimal as possible... keep a fresh doser valve in it once a year, and do a yearly EGR system cleaning... Should keep those filters clean that way...

If I had to choose between the two I would go with the 579 every time. We have both at work and I will avoid the 587 if I can. The wind noise from the horrible door seal/door/mirror design will make you go deaf.
PolishPrince and mitrucker Thank this. -
What MPG are you getting in either, or both if you have it... which one is heavier? Really appreciate your commenting and feedback!

579 is a decent truck. I drove em before. Sleeper is a nearly same like you see on 389 but front part is more aero and made out of aluminum. Sad that they replaced the 386 in favor of 579.

579 is lighter than 587.
PolishPrince Thanks this. -
Excellent news! Cant complain about a better higher quality truck that can take more room in payload...

About a year ago I found the dry weight of the 579 on Jim Palmer's web site. Not sure if it's still on there, it was like 15,500 or in that area, I believe that was with the Paccar motor.PolishPrince Thanks this.
