No not jealous at all it's just you have been jumping all over the forum saying you're going to do one thing then a day later you're doing something else. Yet you have still to get a cdl I'm you're hand.

I have not changed my mind at all... about anything. Just doing research...

Getting a CDL is the easy part... Choosing the right company to fit my needs and selecting the right equipment to fit my needs takes time and research... i will be looking into trucks and companies for a good while before i just jump in... I already have a top 3 company list... and narrowed my truck search down to 3 truck combinations.

I dont understand why some are so threatened of me asking questions...

Knowledge is power people... understand that... unless you enjoy keeping the industry full of uninformed drivers...

Everyone has to start somewhere... i start with gathering intel... more intel... and then more intel after that...

I think you are worrying in the wrong budget item. Real life all get less than advertised mileage. 1 mpg is a lot at the end of the year but so is maintenance and time lost from money spent and lost downtime revenue.

I am a one truck and one truck trailer owner. Never again will I own a truck that has dpf, egr etc, it almost put me out of business.

Your mindset has to be focused on minimal downtime and profit margin. You can also haul 2 extra loads in a year to equal that 6k savings from the fuel you theoretically think you will save. Real life and road conditions along with windy as hell everywhere, I get 5.8 to 6.5.

Last point, the major piece is concentrate on profit margin.

If you must have exaust treatment your warranty MUST COVER ALL TREATMENT COMPONENTS for the life of the other warranty. And the wording in the warranty has to include seals and o rings.

    Good luck.

I replied to you thinking you were already an owner .....

Dude you have no idea what you are getting into.

If you have no CDL and go get one you are looking at 24k per year on insurance for your own truck -trl on general liability, cargo , phys damage and TRL phys cover. Another 18-1900 for plate.
And did I mention nobody will lease on a newbie with his own truck and zero experience? Because THEIR insurance company will not say ok.Those that would will fleece you on the backend for what they take out.

Thanks for the reply. I am a company driver now for three months. I got my CDL and have been hauling step-deck from the start. Exactly where I wanted to be, now 9months from my own truck and authority. I've already built a relationship with so many brokers, just as a company driver! Can't wait, real excited.

Still researching for the truck. trailer I about know what I want, now finding the right brand. I like Manac, Reitenour, and Fontaine. All alumnium step deck, with 2 boxes, j-hook channels(unless Fontaine) sliding rear spread and front axle lift, scales, dual bag dump, full ramp kit, and container locks...

I'm honestly down to between two trucks to start with. Either a 2013-2015 Volvo D13 670 or a 1997-1999 3406 379. Fuel Economy and Cali with one. Or no elog and versatility.

I have a 2014 579 ISX 15 450hp 10sp Ultrashift plus transmission. This truck is the best truck I've ever owned the 80" bunk is spacious and comfortable. I pull a 53' Dry Van avg 35k-44k loads trucks fuel mileage since I've had it is around 7.3mpg. Another note I've done a complete bypass of aftertreatment including EGR/EGR Cooler. I don't try for the fuel mileage either I run pretty much 65-70mph everywhere I go.

HA put me into that thing then I am deaf.

If you must choose between two, looks like 579 wins. Never mind that fuel mileage. 5 or 6 miles gallon is about all you get after 100 years of trucking innovation and ... nerfing among our engineers.

i get 7.5 everywhere i go, all the time loaded. 10-12 mpg when empty.

then there was that 2 weeks of 4.5 mpg when the wind was blowing snow so hard i couldnt make the 65mph speed limit floor boarded...

the ecm says i got 6.7 mpg lifetime with idling... but am sure it lies...

hahahaa cuz with a tail wind in texas, this one time, i got 8.9 mpg loaded for a day and a half.

getting dressed right now... i do have an appt with cedar rapids pete, looking at a 2019, 579.

looking as in... seriously just looking... curious about weights options and how much truck i cant afford...

am not to sure about fitzgerald’s either. all new pete or glider series 60... seems they both want $150,000 for a truck and i dont think i want to work that hard to pay for one.

You don’t want to go to Fitzgerald’s. I’ve worked there for 4+ years and all they are trying to do is rip you a new #######. Seriously, they are the most crooked bunch of people I know and as long as they make a dollar, they don’t care how their truck are built. They have 800+ warranty calls a week... that should tell you something. Choose wisely. You’ll thank me later.
