Hence why i said and always say im biased as hell lol i will never try to hide that fact. In the end its always whoever reads whatever i writes choice. But when asked my opinion its to not buy one /shrug.

When i got my paccar i had a good experince with the ones i drove for the post office and figured this would be the same. It wasnt and all the issues ive had have ensured ill never buy a new paccar. And deffo never a kenworth after how bad mhc burned me. Those types of experinces shape opinions as you said. Im just the type once i form an opinion i may be wrong, but i am never uncertain of it.

It's easy to do. Just have to haul hogs too. I would routinely take hogs to the west/east coast and bring feeder cattle back to the midwest.

at those rates you'll make about the same as a company driver without the benefits and more risk. You probably won't go bankrupt if your truck treats you alright, but you'll never get ahead either.

I run Canada and my rate is $5/loaded Km which is $8/loaded mile. Empty return, so essentially $2.50/Km travelled or $4/mile travelled. I can’t make any money running for less, everything is just too expensive. Look at replacement cost for new trucks and new trailers right now, insane. I don’t know if trailers are ever going to come back down.

All other things under the hood being equal, a 389 will use more fuel than an aero truck.

1999 Pete with the cat of your choice or a pre-emissions anything.
You can buy and old truck, a rebuilt engine, for new truck money

I got stuck at a shipper for over 8 hours the other day with a few other guys and we shot the breeze pretty much all day. One guy had a nearly new Kenworth T680 that looked super nice and I asked him how he liked it. He said everything about the truck was great except for the engine, which was the MX-13. He thought the engine was weak and the engine brake was even weaker, to the point that he legitimately felt scared going down mountains because he smoked his brakes one time even with the full engine brake applied the whole time. I've heard this from multiple people and frankly after having driven one of those I have zero confidence in that engine to the point to where I turned down a high paying job with a certain company because they would stick me in a truck with that specific engine and super singles.

At this point if a truck does not have a Cummins X-15 in it I don't want to drive it.

Sounds like he has some issues that need addressed because the engine brake on the two I’ve had didn’t have any issues holding the truck back. I can be 76k or so gross and drop off the Idaho side of Lookout at 55.
