Yeah I get it, that’s the last thing you want to do is wrench on a truck sometimes after running hard.

that sucks they aren’t worth much, I could get into logging for sure, looks like fun to me.

I used to run nw mn, up by Canada and it would be -30 actual temp, respect to you for doing that. That’s brutal.

    FlaSwampRat and Lepton1 Thank this.

Very little wrenching on the old log truck, in fact basically none during logging season, what wrenching I have done has been preventative during the off season, except for a couple of busted springs and a few minor deals.
The haul going on right now would only gross about 700 a day, and I would burn 50 gallons of fuel. I can do better than 700 a day in a company truck, with no expences.

You ever think about selling your trucks and being a company driver? Or you just waiting for the money to get better?

at least you got a few trucks so if one market is in the toilet you can haul something else.

Not at all, I would not even consider being a company driver long term. I have been offered some pretty sweet gigs, but I like being able to work when I want to, and with all the bs these days would just quit driving if I had to go company.

Yeah I get it, that’s why I run “local”. No logs no bs, just fill out a dvir and I’m off to the races. My company is real cool and laid back so I’m lucky.

I used to work for one that would micromanage the hell out of you. Once the cameras came I was gone.

I wouldn’t go company driver either if I didn’t have to.

I could run a gravel truck in the summer, and have before. a guy can and a lot does make enough to run the summer and coast till the next year. I have done that a couple of years when freight was slow, but can do the same thging in my own truck just as easy, and I have control over what I am driving and where.

I just love watching the "Comfy" owner operator guys i their 50's getting all new tires on their 379-389-W-900 with a good 8-10/32nds still left on the tread.......I'll walk up to them and tell them "Id buy those from you cash for more than you'll get in trade"..... They usually look at me like im crazy- But I would do it for spares and such

I can't wrap my head around this thinking.
I do my own tire work, have all the equipment including a service truck with compressor, but I literally hate having a flat or even worse a blowout on the road.
I could not run them down that low anyway, for what I do, but try to change out before I start having trouble.

i get it if your off road -floaters etc- This is on highway applications- 8-10/32nds is a lotta road left for them- at the price of tires today- foolish not to use them to their potential course checking dates- But most are gonna be within 3 years.
