Unsafe driving and drug/alcohol numbers are because if the drivers. Not e-logs. There are drivers who are just flat out bad drivers. Tailgating, no seatbelt going into a scale (you would think they would at least be smart enough but no) speeding, etc. that's because they are bad drivers. Anyone who gets caught with drugs or alcohol out here is usually (and rightfully so) fired on the spot and blackballed. As they should be. No excuses for that ever. Maintenance, that's drivers and company. I know you've heard of the Pre-Trip Inspection. You'd be amazed how many drivers don't, won't, or can't do it. The numbers you have pointed out in other threads have nothing to do with EOBRs. A company cannot know everything a driver does out here. So, you can put all the numbers up you want with companies on E-logs but they have nothing to do with them.

But you don't run the Rockies.....I don't see how EOBR's and a Rocky Mountain Winter are going to work together nicely.....

You get a load from LA to Denver....You P/U Monday morning....It has to be there by Wednesday No matter what....Receivers don't give a rat's a$z if you have ice..snow...Or dumb a$zed 4-Wheelers blocking your way...It's gets there On Time or you'll be looking for another customer.......

The same is said for Logs. There is no reason for a driver to falsify his logs other than he is lazy and incompetent. He should be blackballed and not allowed in the industry. E-logs will not make this happen. The only think E-logs will do is make the number of driver violations go down but every other number for the other category's will go up. Therefore my numbers have everything in the world to do with EOBRs. You say a company can't know everything a driver does but yet you support them trying. Wow thats funny to me as it seems like your one of the types that just want to argue even though you have no ground to stand on.

What it all comes down to is simple. If you truly run legal on paper, the only thing that will change with elogs is you don't have to fill out a book anymore.

There is ABSOLUTLY NO REASON AT ALL we who are legal need E-logs then? I rather use a book then some computer hooked to my truck and sitting in my cab taking up space in my home (since my truck is small). If the E-log is just for making things simple then I would rather not have them.

Can you run over 15 minutes on an EOBR and not get nailed?

I heard that PC and LaHood would like the EOBR's tied into the ECM like the DPF/SCR are now...So when you go over....They send a message to the ECM to de-rate the truck......

We all have been 15 minutes over at one time or another, because the shipper/receiver ran long....You arrive at the Truck Stop and the lot is full...So you go to the next town to find parking....

    Paper logs....Easy fix....

EOBR....You may have explaining to do.....

Oh come on, anj8488...even when I ran legal on paper, I still cheated on my logs! Shifting activities (adding fuel and pre-trip, sliding the load/unload time to a more convenient spot, and so on), shaving 15-30 minutes off so I can slide into a better truck stop, heck even rewriting the book just because I wasn't tired and it was a beautiful day for a drive! EOBRs and paper logs don't give the driver that freedom. Was I unsafe? Sure, according to the law. But amazingly enough, I didn't race out there to crush a family of four on vacation, or even run over that school bus full of nuns!

And I've been looking for them nuns for years, too! What can I say, I have unresolved issues from the time I spent in Catholic schools.

Point is, there are drivers who have abused the paper logs (There were times I could be included here, too), and there are drivers who may play a little "fast and loose" with the rules but are still safe, competent drivers. The difference is self discipline. Some have it, some don't. And its because of those who don't that everyone has to deal with E-Logs, EOBRs, and ever increasing regulation...

After all, there was the driver a while back who got into a major accident due to watching porn on his dash while driving down the road. Should we require all video devices be removed from all trucks?
