Not once did I ask about service animals nor did I state he was a service animal.
1. What is an emotional support animal (also called "assistance animal")?
An emotional support animal is not a pet. An emotional support animal is a companion animal that provides therapeutic benefit to an individual with a mental or psychiatric disability. The person seeking the emotional support animal must have a verifiable disability (the reason cannot just be a need for companionship). The animal is viewed as a "reasonable accommodation" under the Fair Housing Amendments Act of 1988 (FHA or FHAct) to those housing communities that have a "no pets" rule. In other words, just as a wheelchair provides a person with a physical limitation the equal opportunity to use and enjoy a dwelling, an emotional support animal provides a person with a mental or psychiatric disability the same opportunity to live independently. Most times, an emotional support animal will be seen as a reasonable accommodation for a person with such a disability. Failure to make reasonable accommodations by changing rules or policies can be a violation of the FHA unless the accommodation would be an undue financial burden on the landlord or cause a fundamental alteration to the premises.
Companion animal is the same thing just doesnt sound so moody. My dog provides me with the ability to talk to people randomly hes my buddy for my social issues. People will come up and say how beautiful he is and strike up chats. Would never happen otherwise as I avoid people.
For all the negative nancy's who scream you cant be a trucker yadda yadda boo hoo about this I say bullcrap. I just would never want to be a mentor lol. My brothers best friend drove for swift for two years before moving onto Oilfield driving then to an Electronics tech and he has Aspergers and its BAD. Aspergers is way more debilitating.

That's a while separate issue freaking with fair housing. I believe the poster was trying to say, it looks like, according to the ADA that unless you have a service animal, your stuck with the companies pet policy. Fair housing act doesn't apply to trucking. You may possibly slide it by, but that's up to the company, and if they say no, you have no recourse but to abide by it or leave. You can't file under ADA.iloveatrucker Thanks this.

I was thinking about this and I am going to run down to the Department of labor early tomorrow and see what all it takes to get the WIA to pay for school or if theres another similar option. If its going to take 6months to get approved Ill just suck it up and go with Swift and move on when I can.

If you follow the link, there are specific guidelines for a pet to be considered an emotional support animal. I don't care if you have a pet or social anxiety, personally. Actually, before I googled it, my first thought was you should totally be able to have your dog, even through training, especially with a Dr's script. Then, I read, and now I would think not. So, you will basically be at the mercy of Swift or whatever company.

Some shippers rec won't allow animals on their property better make sure that's not going to b an issue.

You are free to your opinion. Mountaingote had an assy response which kicked on the social anxiety and made me get rude. I apologize if I upset you but I totally deserve my dog whether anyone else believes it or not.

Try WIA program first. If that program will pay for your CDL school, then go with a flatbed company at graduation. Not as many people to deal with in flatbed.

I used wia to pay for my school. Just finished last friday. Some things to expect. In my state, you have to be on unemployment at time of applying for WIA assistance, it is required. Don't expect anything to move quickly or as you would expect, you will be dealing with government employees. If you have any questions just ask.
austinmike Thanks this. -
