Maverick is out of Little Rock, AR and have terminals in Ft. Smith, AR, Madison, IL, Laurinburg, NC, Middletown, OH, Gary, IN, and Green Bay, WI. I don't think they're hiring in east MD but from my experience, it's always better to call than rely on a website.
Good luck. -
ok will do ive actually been thinking about staying with the dump trailer division so i might just call payne trucking tomorrow out of fredericksburg va

OK i finally found a home. PGT !!! Have been really impressed with this company. Limited sit time waiting for a load. They care about their drivers, their home time, their families. You have an issue with truck, a person, a load or whatever.. you call in and it is resolved right then. Quite a few dispatchers are ex drivers. You don't see 15 to 20 drivers sitting around a terminal, like at many other companies. Hell it took me 2 weeks to actually find a driver to speak too ( they all are running their arses off making money) to try for an inside scoop on the company. The ones I have managed to talk to don't have a bad word to say about this company. Nor do I.
Only cons I have found so far with this company is the stupid satellite, 3 messages to say the same thing. Last con is you can't accrue extra home time. You go out 1 week you get 2 days, you go out 4 weeks you get 2 days home. Ok i can live with both those
. Making money, working my arse off ( can stand to lose a few pounds anyway) and am enjoying this ride. Every time I have asked to go home, been there.
As for Peterbilt, you shouldn't have an issue getting home. PGT has alot of loads in and out of Maryland , NJ and Phili. I've seen more of all 3 then i care too lolPDI Graduate Thanks this. -
Good to hear that its working for you Digit. How long have you been with them? I am only about 30 miles form their main office/yard so I have always thought about them but was never too sure. I have a few questions if you don't mind answering them?
1. What do you guys haul other than steel products?
2. What is their operating area, how far west and south? Any forced NYC?
3. Are drivers permitted to put a power inverter in the truck if it is installed by the shop? -
1. What do you guys haul other than steel products?
PGTT hauls steel coils, flat steel, super sacks, wallboard, lumber, shingles. heavy equipment, oversized. basically if it fits on a flatbed and isn't perishable they haul it
2. What is their operating area, how far west and south? Any forced NYC?
recruiter told me from pa to sc to tx to il was the operating area... but i learned pgt will haul from maine to fl to cali to washington and include ontario and quebec. (recruiter lied...lol imagine that) actually he didn't lie he just didn't know better (and got in trouble for it also).
no no forced NYC or forced canada. the main operating area is of cource pa maryland ohio virginia. that i have seen so far.
you do have to get a twic card and take the alabama coil test if don't already have.
3. Are drivers permitted to put a power inverter in the truck if it is installed by the shop?
yes an inverter is allowed and will be installed by the shop for you
pgt does not pay per mile they pay a % of load to company drivers as well as owner ops. odds of getting a dedicated run i hear are pretty good also. if one wishes to be home every weekend they will do it (won't make as much $ of course) every other weekend is normal.
have been with pgt now since mar and from the very start i was impressed. pgt was not my 1st choice to go to work for. but i am sure glad my 1st two choices never responded.
only places we sit is in the ports and at steel mills. other then that you are running your rear off. flat bed isn't for everyone.. thats for sure. Van DRIVERS couldn't hack driving a flat bed lol too much work for them. (from an ex van driver also lol)PDI Graduate Thanks this. -
Do you get more hometime on a dedicated run ....??
Thanks in advance -
guessing they do.. most are home nightly and every weekend. the ones i know of start their day at 3 or 4 am and are home by 2 or 3 pm daily. don't work but one weekend a month (if at all)
-
thanks for the info.....i'm from north jersey.....wondering if they would have a dedicated run up my way....i guess you have to have more exp. for those runs though..... -
Well, I had PGT on my list of companies to start out with, decided I was going to go with DM Bowman mainly because as a newbie, I didn't want to start out making percentage, and Bowman was offering decent mileage pay. Long story short, things didn't work quite the way I hoped with Bowman (did alot of sitting). Now I'm not driving, got 3 months flatbed experience (including training). I reapplied to PGT and got told unfortunately my experience would not count, and they only bring in one student a week, and they are all booked up until mid-june before I can get in.. I talked to a few PGT drivers while I was out there, never heard anything bad come out of them...
Any companies out there that will bring on a newbie... Was told by Melton, had I waited one more week, they would have brought me on, and had some issues with my license almost 3 years ago that Maverick told me to reapply in 6 months.... Any suggestions... Waiting to hear from Boyd, and PI&I... Falcon??????Last edited: May 5, 2011
