What are some reasons NOT to base your small carrier (5-10 trucks) out of Phoenix, Arizona? As opposed to locations like Memphis, TN; Indianapolis, IN; Dallas, TX, for example. Dry van and reefer freight would come from spot market with intention of adding direct contract freight along the way. Please also include reasons why it would be a GOOD idea.

    Thank you in advance!

I know regular van freight pays nothing coming out of Phoenix, but guys based in LA still do it to get back home.

If you run reefer, at least you can go to Nogales to get your fruits and veggies to deliver anywhere USA.

If you're going to based in Phoenix with a van, I think you're going to have to be specialized.

    Pros , tons of freight
Cons, tons of trucks and companies
Rates can be spotty in Phoenix but there are good paying lanes . I come out of Central ,Tx but will stay in the west for a week or so running freight back and forth befor I find a load home .

A lot less lanes to choose from. Not nearly as many towns to haul freight in and out of. In the spot market that can make or break you.

29 days of 110 degrees or more last summer. That only qualified for 4th all time hottest year. Some days it was 115. Typically over 100 from May till September. Screenshot_20200426-173115.png

Couldn't do it. Wearing FR's in the oilfield up here was bad enough in 80 degree heat

Thanks for the replies. I lived in AZ a number of yrs ago, want to go back for good. Love that dry, hot climate.
