Phone interview tomorrow. What should I expect?

In all due respect, that is not how Walmart operates. You are talking about getting a "normal" truck driving job. The process for the Private Fleet is very different. You are not just a number, you are a person. WM is all about safety and have the best safety score in the industry. Thus, they want to make sure that the folks that they consider are as safety minded as they are. Also, this is just the phone interview. This does not mean you get the job. If you pass the phone interview, you will then be scheduled for a pre-trip and driving test. They require a very thorough pre-trip, and if you don't pass that, you do not do the driving test.

Walmarts compensation package is totally different than any other companies. They are one of the premier jobs in the industry and treat their drivers like gold and with respect. As such, they expect very professional drivers who will present themselves in the high standards that a fleet of their rank should have. No forced dispatch, you will not bring your dog, and you will not bring a gun. You can bring family members to ride with you. You will keep your truck clean. They will provide you uniforms that either you keep clean and neat, or they will clean them for you. You will earn $80K plus, and will pretty much be left alone as long as you do your job, do it safely, and do not lie. Lying is a huge issue for WM. You will always get a minimum of 1.5 days off a week (only that low when extending your week to full HOS), but will normally have 2-2.5 days. You will get a lot of paid time off at full ADP (Average Daily Pay) and you will never drive over HOS............. ever. You will even get paid to sleep in your truck.

Imissed the "hello walmart drivers " at the beginning of the op post,sorry..Yes,I was giving generic company advice.I have heard Walmart pays great...if you can follow All of the Rules.

I applied to the Johnstown NY dc last year and they called me about a month later. I did the phone interview the following week they had me go down to Marcy New York DC and I did a pre-trip and road test and passed they gave me a little white card by the safety guy. And then they had me immediately afterwards go do a DOT physical and I passed that. About a week later I got a call from Arkansas the people doing the vetting process told me they can't hire me because one of the trucks I drove in the oil field was a "straight " truck. I wasn't going to argue with a pencil Pusher over the phone trying to explain what it was I drove for that one job so I let it go it wasn't meant to be.

Yes get under the truck and point out everything. Do the pretrip exactly like you would normally. Get your hands dirty and tell them exactly what you're looking for.

The difference is you need to walk around the truck and do both sides and you need to get your hands dirty. not only are you going to tell them what you're checking for but you need to actually check everything. Don't forget to check for the fire extinguisher, triangles, trailer registration, inspection stickers, license plates and permit book. Also you need to fill out the pre trip inspection form. You will also need to do an in cab pretrip which includes The airbrake check etc.

Make sure you practice numerous times and get very comfortable with it. You only have 30 minutes to do the entire pretrip and believe me it will take every bit of 30 minutes to complete.

Please stop giving all these guys step by step instructions on what to do to get this job. You're part of the reason our fleet's quality of driver has been going down.

Yes second this and share same thought process. I don't mind helping out with general questions and such. But I don't think we should "give away answers to the test". When people ask what will the questions on phone interview be? And what do I need to show on pretrip? Either you know it or you don't. If the person wants job bad enough, and they are actually a safe compliant, driver all the time and do things correctly, they will have no problem getting hired. Conversely anyone given answers to the test can fudge their way through once, then go back to their old ways/ bad habits once hired and be the weak link of the fleet. For the most part we all worked hard and put in our dues to get where we are today. Remember it only takes a couple to tarnish the image of the many
