I am not understanding why people are thinking them dropping back drivers is bad as well, am i the only one who remembers the economy tanking a year and a half ago? dropping 200 drivers is nothing new, there isnt as much steel to be hauled. my company dropped over 100 drivers last year, scaling back.
arrow and carlen just went out, there is now an opening that needs to be filled, along with the economy slowly coming back on track. the overcapacity in flatbedding in the midwest and northeast is evening itself out. baker hiway express is gone, arrow is gone, carlen is gone, along with other small flatbed/steel hauling outfits.
my company has multiple loads it can't cover because of all the work we have been getting, and it doesnt look like it is slowing down anytime soon. Ficel in buffalo is hiring, and all they do is haul b trains across canada in between gary, detroit, and buffalo. last year it looked like they were going out of business. that is a good job too, 70k a year, even with the canadian dot breathing down their neck about service violations.

I know one of their brokers and I know a higher up in the company. They are a typical steel hauling outfit. They do a bunch of heavy haul also. There are some crooked folks lurking in that company so be aware. I know a couple drivers that work for them and they dont have anything exciting to say about them. It's a job. I know quite a few drivers that told me to stay the heck away from them too. Were talkin old hands that I used to sit around and drink coffee with. So thats all I know. If it were me, I wouldnt consider them. It all depends on your situation. I know jobs are hard to come by in your area.
RickG Thanks this. -
Using safestat is great but you've got to look at all the information. The number of trucks could show a higher number as well as a low number could look real good. If you are checking for a company and are not sure if you have all the information to find them, a name then the number of trucks can help. Sometimes there's more than one company with the same name so other information comes in handy. You want to see some good companies then I would suggest Chevron with a hundred or so trucks, BP with a little over 2 hundred, or even Tri-State motor freight. The only thing I don't like is you can not tell how long a driver has been there. Look at Swift and you'll think those drivers have been there for along time since the numbers have not changed in a couple of years. One drawback with loads of info.

yeah, i work for kennedy, im just stating dont expect safety like crete or some other big name company making sure you run legal. that doesnt work around steel mills.
for where you are at, p i and i is probably about as good as its going to get, unless you want to go run car parts for central, or maybe try and get into gravel trains, but thats seasonal and slow right now. -
I was speaking of the trucks that have PI&I on the doors. I dont know who all they are affiliated with. I was told they owned Falcon or something, but they were "okay" when I was there.
