Na thanks. Some can’t see the truck next to them you think they’ll see me?

Hard to say. You're limited with the large dog, so tried to list companies that might work with you.
Some drivers are satisfied with the companies and some gripe and complain.

Contact Magnum logistics out of Fargo, ND. They will for sure hire you for OTR and you can bring your dog after training. I had a 100 pound Black German Shepard with me on the road with them. Saw a few drivers with bully breeds as well. So breed and looks will not be an issue. They also have one of the better training programs. The trainer sits in the passenger seat, the trainee drives. Not like the glorified team driving many companies do.

Also ask them about other opportunities. We recently hired a couple of line haul drivers right out of school at the Sioux Falls terminal on the LTL side of the company. So they might be willing to bring you on for home daily experience as well. They have a terminal in Kansas City. If nothing else, you might be able to transfer there after you get a little experience.

If you go otr make sure the trucks are equipped for driver comfort no matter what company you choose. A fridge, an APU and an inverter are all things I would never drive otr without. Magnum has all of that in every sleeper truck.

Are electric APUs generally good enough? I see APUs are used for heating and cooling among the other possible power draws (cooking units, refrigerators, lights, entertainment, charging electronics, etc.). I’m not overly concerned about heating; but, obviously, cooling can take a lot of power, especially in the summer heat.

They are only good for 10-12 hours, tops. If you do a 34 in the truck, you will be hating life in the summer.

Mine is good for that. Plus can start truck for 30 minutes and find for awhile. Did 40 hours and started truck 3 times 30-45 each time.

Good or bad, I am scheduled to start training with Freymiller on August 1.

Their recruiter was particularly good at answering questions. I will train with an experienced truck driver for up to 2 months. And, while the pay is unusually low for training, they pay fairly well afterward. And, I can take my dog along when I get onto soloing!

    Thanks Chinatown, et al.

Freymiller has a pretty solid reputation. The only concern that I would have is the fact that they were recently bought out by an investment firm. I wish you the best when you get out on the road with Freymiller. I am sure that you will do well. Hopefully that investment firm doesn't try to run Freymiller under.
