Well I think a lot of things have affected this industry, drug testing, criminal history checks, companies that pay crap cpm, and the fact that so many people don't want to work. All of it and other things have really drained the driver pool. But back to the original topic, regardless of who I was working for I wouldn't drive if I was tired. Not any different than running on bad tires or missing mirriors.

I know for a while they were offering drivers a choice of three loads, don't know if they are still doing that or not.

Wow. Midnight to 6 am is my bread and butter hours. I love banging out miles before rush hour, watch the sun rise, then stop anywhere I want for a thirty and have the pick of the litter parking spot at the end of the day.

    But...

    ...to each their own.

I know I was concerned about being tired when I got back into trucking. But I have found that I can sleep well in a stationary truck and after a few days running team I sleep like a baby if my teammate can drive worth a ####. Flipping schedules is fine with me. I pull over and take a good solid nap if I have to.

Besides which driving at night I get to see meteors, stars, chubacabra, and bigfoot.

I ran those hours too, when I was pulling reefer.
If memory serves, Knight discouraged those hours because some study showed that more serious crashes occurred during this time period.

I don't care about the overnight hours restrictions, I'll keep her moving. That appt time aint getting any sooner. Actually threatens to make a load late if Im not alllowed overnight driving for fear of wrecks.

Tell me this, have you managed to see how empty parts of our Nation become during holidays when you count on one hand cars you see on a few fingers? The Denver to Dallas overland sometimes are like that (287..)

Go flatbed specialized. Run OD loads when you get some experience. Many states won't even allow you to run at night if you're 10' or wider.

I joined Anderson trucking decades ago and my biggest choice was not to join specialized even though that was a pathway offered to me. I was still a tenderfoot in flatbedding and the scale of equiptment ATS had on hand was breathtaking. Multi bridge 150 ton transformer? Can do. Little low boy extended? That too. Hook on.

Er no Not me. Picked the van division. I should have gone specialized if I knew how much FUN it would have been. I was a coward then in them days.
