Lots of here say and bad info. Just look it up via fmcsa. I keep a copy in my dot binder. See attached. [yes, you can use as pc and log the annotation. Helps with eld keeping up on ifta. Sorry pages are in reverse order. Read bottom attachment first. ATTACH=full]480889[/ATTACH] IMG_3743.jpeg

    Fair enough.
What i mentioned was how it was explained to me by a DOT officer and how i read it in the regs.
When i run under that exemption, I’m really stringent on making sure I’m well within the reg to ensure I’m on solid ground.
    We don’t want no problems.
Ain’t no need to poke the dragon needlessly.

Many DOT officers aren’t well versed in the regs that they’re enforcing, unfortunately. The Ag exemption was part of the MAP21 highway bill from the Obama era, but most people didn’t bother using it until the ELD was mandated.

Why is it so important to run AG exempt? You'll have to pardon my ignorance.

For this particular load once the OP was empty in Mankato everything he does in the circle would be off duty. His drive time wouldn’t start until he hit the southern edge of this radius.

Ok yeah, picked up a handful of free miles and was able to drive a little further, but the boss said to run it per ELD regs after he asked. Then he went and did the exact opposite of what the boss said and lost trust.

Whatever happens with his employer is on him. But in general why wouldn’t a person want to learn the regs and use all tools available to them to make their life easier and save some hours on their 70?

When I pulled pneumatic our main backhaul was exempt. I knew exactly where I could go off duty headed back, I would plan my fuel and shower to be in the circle, and once loaded I’d stopped before I left the radius. Most of the time I only needed to nap a couple hours and I’d have a fresh 11 and 14. That would give me enough time to deliver and washout and load my food grade before taking a 10.

Sometimes when I was short on hours I’d bounce some feed salt loads and get a rolling 34 hour reset so I could head back out with food grade again.

Exactly. Shipper was 141 miles away from where I was offloaded in Mankato MN. Plus I had to have the trailer washed out as shipper absolutely will not load without a washout receipt. Didn't have to log anything until right outside of Omaha NE on I-80 and I-680.

We're based out of El Paso actually. And that's where I live too. And surprisingly, it's been hotter in Iowa, and even parts of Kansas too compared to El Paso.

There are more than one way of doing things. As for what the op wants its perfectly legal. If he wants to drive an extra 3hrs. Why shouldn't he.
