The only reason to meet those measurements,

    is to log sleeper berth.

Its a little short for me but it's a nice place to take a break. Took about a hour to build and $90 so good for a tight budget. It'll do till I can afford putting a real sleeper on the truck.

Im not a hot shot driver. But I have passedsome guys that remove the bed and put an old KW sleeper on thier trucks, and either build a shorter bed or just build a flat bed behind it.

My husband and I team hotshot loads from Houston to all over the west coast and as far east at South Carolina. For DOT regs and safety we will be added a sleeper to the truck. He is 6'3 and being in a 3500 Dodge does not give him a lot of room. Because we want to stay rolling and have plenty of rest in between drive times, I believe it will be worth it. Does anyone else have an opinion of Cowtownsleepers? S

Ok, I'm about to ask, what is probably, a really stupid question but, here goes anyway.

Doesn't sleeping in a motel constitute a business expense and would, therefore, be tax deductible?

Yes it does... but, it doesnt make sense to deliberately pay the amount for a hotel every night just to get the tax deduction.

If your paying $40 (minimum with tax) per night that is $280 per week.. again, minimum. In reality, your going to be looking at more like $350 per week ($50 per night with tax) in hotel bills. That money has to come right off the top. That's before you pay your bills at home or your truck note, insurance etc. That's $1400 a month. That was almost three truck notes for us ($525 per month for a one ton truck.) There is no way we could tie that money up for that long... until we filed our taxes & waited on the refund.

When Kaye & I were running, we would pick up those little hotel coupon books & look for discounts where we figured we would stay that night. Otherwise, we would look for coupons online during the day. its not as easy as it seems. And its very expensive. Eventually, we gave up & just slept in the back seat where I had built a bed as I mentioned in another post in this thread.

I wouldn't want to team in a pickup truck. A full size condo sleeper truck was bad enough. Gives me the chills even thinking about it. How on earth do you sleep?

I have done the same since starting with cars in July 2013. I'm not over 6' tall (5'9") so the back seat does me very well for the 10 hour off duty period. I added a 3" memory foam pad with cover. I can get a good 8 hours of sleep while saving the cost for a motel room.
