Well, I'm glad to see someone else has a sense of humor!
I caught hell for that; so not everyone found it funny.
Many don't have a sense of humor and automatically assume such phrases are meant as insults. Which, of course, was not my intent.
But, I can't take credit for the phrase. I've heard it many times over the years, apparently unlike most here.
I apparently violated the first rule of comedy; "Know your audience." -
Gryphon, that just as bad as in the 80's I had some people call me a 20/20 killer truck driver. After a 20/20 show aired that called us that. But in your case no harm done.

Don't worry about it. It takes a specialist to remove the stick stuck in a lot of hams.mike5511, Big_m and jessejamesdallas Thank this.

Perhaps I should put a Browning ping on mine.....you know how those radios had that distinct ping when keyed up
-
Yep...sounds almost like feedback. When I lived in Alabama, a guy up the street had a set of Eagles. We'd all meet most nights on Ch. 20. One of the few things I miss about living down there.

It is feedback, that's what makes the ping happen.

I think there is a sound toy for that sound, IIRC

Here are links to those Motorola toneburst MP3 files:

Personally, I don't like extraneous noises and beeps. I'd prefer the simple "squelch burst" in the second one since VHF radios often do this anyway. To me, beeps and squeaks are annoying, unnecessary, and eventually get on my nerves. But that's just ME. Repeaters have too many beeps and squeaks as is! IMHO.

GFTurbo-T Thanks this.
