Exactly. Obama was still president when this started. Last week may have been about Trump but that's not the origin.

    On respect -

After hours of careful consideration, and even a visit from Nate Boyer, a retired Green Beret and former N.F.L. player, we came to the conclusion that we should kneel, rather than sit, the next day during the anthem as a peaceful protest. We chose to kneel because it’s a respectful gesture. I remember thinking our posture was like a flag flown at half-mast to mark a tragedy.

It baffles me that our protest is still being misconstrued as disrespectful to the country, flag and military personnel. We chose it because it’s exactly the opposite. It has always been my understanding that the brave men and women who fought and died for our country did so to ensure that we could live in a fair and free society, which includes the right to speak out in protest.

After hours of consideration, I wonder why the NFL players don't get up off their knees and play football. Just because they worship themselves doesn't mean the rest of us do. They don't realize how silly they look, down on their knees. They're as goofy as actors and actresses with their inflated view of self importance.

I'm not at all a football fan in fact I hate the sport but I support all the players and what they believe in.I watched the national anthem however to see what all the players and owners would do.

It's sad that your bitterness in life is showing. Not everyone can achieve the same things in life....just because you ended up a truck driver does not mean you see the bad in those more successful than you.

I don't see CT as a bitter curmudgeon in any regard.
    Quite the opposite.

Now about a third of the people that have posted on this thread, hate themselves, and everything around them for whatever reason.
You could give them a new car, and they'd B about the color.

People are thankful or they are not.

Besides, it's a free country, they are free to leave if they are so unhappy.

    Success is relative.

In my view, someone with courage to speak against injustice - in whatever form that injustice presents itself - has attained success of understanding "the golden rule".

I would argue that @Chinatown had attained success in helping others find viable trucking companies to seek employment with. That give him great satisfaction, I'm sure, else he would not be doing it.

Success, to the tranquil black lady that got arrested by the "breakdancing cops" was attained by presenting herself in a non-violent protest -which in itself was annoying to some, that they rediculed it.

Ghandi was successful, MLK was successful. Some choose to gloss over what's happening with the kneeling, by mis-attributing the act as a dis to the flag, whereas it's an act of acknowledging that the flag has fallen short of the promise it presents.

If the US flag and all that it represents is "so oppressive" to so many then why the hell are millions across the globe so desperate to get here by any means necessary, and furthermore, why are so many here who claim to be oppressed not leaving but rather bask in all the great things it provides them?

People interpret things in different ways and I guarantee you many are sincere, rightly or wrongly, in their belief that the flag is being dissed.
