Roadway used to run those, I thought they called them jiffyloc's. You could tell the ones that were because they were a tandem with another 5th wheel slid up to the cab.

I purchased a truck from bellemare 4 years ago with this third axle and absolutely hate it. The only time I will use it is if going by scales If not i prefer just overloading the drives. Next truck will have a pusher in front of drives like a float truck should have

The rear axle of the truck is not under power When tied on the truck making corners never feels right. Traction is ok when dry. But wet of frozen ground becomes a slip n slide because the last axle always has the most traction. Small tires are always running ridiculously high temps at highway speed. This was my first truck with a pin on third but will never do it again. No were near as Stabil as having a pusher in front of drives.

I actually just started a new gig with a guy that runs a bunch of them to make five axle trucks. He says he can shim them and get 20-22k on the steer of a 300 inch wheelbase peterbilt. I'm going to be running one probably next week so I could possibly get some pictures for you.

He runs steerable dual tired lift axles as pin ons. These use lo profile 22.5's so not near as many issues as a 17.5. The steer axle only has an eighteen degree cut but takes a bunch of stress off the frame.
