I'll take it back for now. It could very well be mechanically perfect and just suffering from the evils of salt.

No one got hurt and nothing except pride damaged!
Good on you for having straps enough to keep load on the truck.
I am confident you got a great education with the load.
As Ruthless and the rest say, stakes and pull it together with belly wrap.
Anytime you question anything, there are dozens of great guys on this forum and willing to help. If you do post a question, tell that you need help NOW with a load and I am confident someone will be along within a few minutes.
    Best wishes

in 34 years of steer’n & gear’n, I have helped many drivers that didn’t have enough lead in their britches to snap a binder over, or catch another notch on the winch. But then again, I’ve seen drivers with enough lead, just not enough sense ;).

Jumping on the winch bar is not really the answer. High probability you will injure yourself doing that. Maybe not today, maybe next week, it is going to happen.

Low probability but yes it will happen once or twice in a career maybe.

Got me once years ago but not bad and nothing to be afraid of IMO.

Also not an option on some freight that can get crushed, like rigid insulation.

When it happened to me it was because I had my bar through one hole only trying to get a better spot. I put a lot on it and it actually ripped the dang metal on the winch. It didn't spring up....I just went straight down and fast! LOL. I was worried about the electricity I felt fly through my arm and neck but then 10 minutes later it was gone! I kinda couldn't believe it.

You can hook two winch bars together for extra leverage.

(Side tip: Always carry a spare winch bar).
