Twenty miles is the equivalent of killing three manatee per trip. To combat your slaughter of innocent marine life, I will turn my truck off each time I go downhill. I get an incredible fuel bonus, you make marine life only slightly ill, everyone wins:thumbup:

That's like not brushing your teeth or taking a shower because there's a chance you'll be hit by a car tomorrow.

Yeah, exactly. The whole thing screams, "Do as I say, not as I do."
Up here we are trying various forms carbon taxation, and they are failing. There are protests about a proposed larger pipeline to triple capacity from Alberta oil sands to the mainland of Vancouver, the protesters say "this is not how we fight climate change!" Alberta says "We will give you climate change TODAY if we just shut off what we are selling you now!" And gave the official threat. Meanwhile, gasoline in the greater vancouver area is the highest in north america. Here's where it really gets F-ed up. The gasoline price is so high, the premier of BC asks Ottawa for help to get the gasoline prices lower, and at the same time is doing everything possible to stop the pipeline expansion that would approximately triple the flow of oil to refineries in the vancouver area, north washington state area, and also make our oil available for export at ocean ports. Do we want expensive gasoline, so expensive it makes driving an elitist thing? Or do we want to be communal where everyone can afford to drive their car? What is the goal here?
B.C. Premier Horgan calls on Ottawa to investigate province’s high gas prices
B.C. premier continues to fight, says ‘it does not matter who owns the pipeline’

In the first link where it shows a picture of a Shell gas station at 1.579, that, today, translates to about 4.59 USD per US gallon (1.30c=1usd). And I believe that is down from the 1.60s.

I am quietly looking forward to the day Alberta and Saskatchewan turn the tap off on BC. Here's to your green economy! (but I still hope AB goes back to the blue team next go round)

But if you saved money from not using water for the shower or teef brushing, you would have more to pay for physical therapy when the car hit you, provided you were jaywalking and at fault. I think short term disability policies are fairly affordable.

The tar pit or oil sands is just plain stupid now that we have perfected fracking.
In the days of “peak oil” oil sands were possibly profitable. But those days are gone forever!

One could say why are we even bothering with either method since you can dig a hole and it comes out of the ground in the middle east. Why go to all the effort? If the market price of a barrel is high enough and someone can turn a profit by doing it, regardless if if is from fracking (maybe $30/barrel to extract?) or tar sands ($50?) then who cares. Some American will be there to make it happen and make lots of money and employ a lot of people in the process.

I must be odd in that I can seperate the two issues.

Yeah since emissions on cars (anyone remember Denver in the 70's? :( ) and trucks we have cleared up a lot of the smog in metro areas.

Sure it makes the air smell better, and easier to breathe.

However this new cult of climate preaching a mantra of immolation are as scary as those luntitics at a Joel O'Steen ritual. Fact is species are born and die daily, the climate is not static, and these nouveau inquisitors are preaching a death cult worthy of the dark ages.

That brown cloud was from the sand and salt they used on the roads back then, since then they went to that mag chloride and we have cleaner looking air but fish swimming around in circles because of damaged brains. And now all we have is forest fire smoke with a bit of sandstorm thrown in for good measure.
