I've been monitoring the climate change, reactions and improvements for years as it affects my life and my career. Here are some of the upcoming changes being made.

    1) The national truck maximum speed limit will eventually be set at 45 MPH. This is the optimum speed for the very best fuel efficiency

    2) As soon as the 5G infrastructure is built, a vast number of corporations with deep pockets will be stepping in to the largest "cash cow" of the century. One is massive changes to the trucking industry. With 5g, communications between machines is almost instantaneous. So the problems today that are hindering autonomy (self driving) vehicles will be lifted.

Resources: Type "5G" into YouTube and you can watch all of this for hours.

    3) The first phase of Autonomous trucks is driver assistance. Phase two is no driver, not cab, no sleeper, (less wasted weight), more freight hauled. Truck lanes alongside of interstates will be constructed for autonomous trucks. They will be moving at 45 MPH and drafting each other (about 25 feet away from each other).

    4) Most shippers will no longer accept manned trucks as they are too slow. Load lanes will be built where the OTR truck arrives. Landing gear comes up from the ground to hold the trailer. the OTR tractor moves away. An automated yard truck pulls the the trailer away as another brings an empty trailer for the OTR truck. Paperwork is eliminated and is sent electronically.

    5) Phase three: Tractor trailers are eliminated. Motorized trailers do all the work (more freight, less waste)

    6) Truck stops sell most of their land (no parking is required) and are limited to refueling/maintenance.

You can see this now. So much more truck parking is required, yet few parking areas are being built. This is because in the near future they won't be needed as shipping is done almost 24/7 by every trucking unit.

    7) Owner operators will buy driverless vehicles and work from an office scheduling freight.

    8) Truck driving jobs will become rare. I started driving when I got out of the Navy 41 years ago. When all the above happens, I'l be retired anyway.

And I have no doubt the recommended mobile repair service would most kindly do you the favor of tripling whatever they would typically charge as soon as the words “scale house” come across the telephone.

    That about right?

Sure, and the gearing of the transmission and rear end has absolutely nothing at all to do with that equation.

Not all police cars are assigned to traffic. They have other duties and will not be stopping you for speeding.

I quit speeding and started running legal HOS 5 years ago when the ELD was being talked about. Had to see if I could or wanted to stay in the industry under what I thought would be restricting, tight parameters. I drive 55 mph 85% of the time now even if the speed limit is higher. At 55 I stay in the right lane almost exclusively because at that speed the 4-wheelers are able to speed up and zip on by when trying to merge on freeway. No more a-hole truckers pass me and as soon as their trailer clears 5' they get in front just to take the safe following distance I had. Now when they pass their flying by me so fast by the time they look in their mirror to come back over there's a nice 5 second gap already. Fuel mileage huge gains. Tires...You would be amazed at the difference in tire wear at 55 and just overall equipment and myself less stress and fatigue. One more thing is I was originally going to put amazing but I think the word should be disgusting to see how aggressive trucks drive. At 55 all traffic is always going by so you see all the tailgating speeding cutting cars off and cutting other trucks off.

I'm not as seasoned as most in the trucking game, but with all the money that goes into keeping the truck alive? I'm more than happy to keep her pegged at 63mph.

I've even toyed with 59-62. Still collecting data on that range.

I'm doing everything to keep this 20yr old girl happy and alive, so I can stay pre-emissions & non-elog.
