Just having the ecm reprogrammed to run the truck correctly will do everything that pittsburg power can do.... Without $10,000 worth in parts.

You see, the factories set they trucks up to run in a tarded state just so they can pass federal emissions.

    Yup and Christensen Thank this.

Is there a secret cult protecting what the PP actually does? I guess I am more used to the Cummins 5.9L world where Mads is open about the timing and all their adjustments.

I have searched high and low for the recipie (timing? duration? FTS mods?)of what PP actually does rather than what the result (+50hp) of what changed.

This is the part most people don't understand. The order of importance followed by the OEM when they wrote the program in the ECM was...
    1.pass emissions
2.run long enough to make it out of warranty
    3.fuel economy
    4.power

When aftermarket companies write the programming you can have them change the order to what you find more important. Funny part is when you throw the first one out the window the other 3 are more easily attainable.:biggrin_2559:

The PP box is nothing more than a fuel addition to the combustion process by holding the injector open longer during its pulse width.

I hate sounding like a saleperson all the time and was hoping some of the guys I've helped out would have told you about what I've done in the past

Performance Diesel Inc, St George, Utah modifies CAT flash files to not only add the fuel you want for extra power, but advances the injection timing for less engine heat and better fuel mileage.

    I'm a PDI dealer, I'll send you a PM

I know you primarily deal with CAT, but for Detroit's does PDI do the same thing as far as tuning goes for the Detroits? From what I've seen, the pricing for a tune and the PP are pretty much the same. The only issue I could see is if one went to a dealer for service and they reflashed the ECM or something went wrong causing the tune to be wiped out or corrupted, how would one get their $2k tune back?

I love the idea of the PP Box, but unfortunately no one seems to know much about them, everything heard is 2nd hand, "my friend's truck on the dyno," or "my friends truck," we don't know all the details. I've read random warnings I can't remember where, but driving on the highway with the highest power level setting is a no.

I thought someone said on here, if you just plug in the PP Box and don't have appropriate modifications done you risk damage to your engine. There is a lot of misinformation floating around, I don't know anything about them either. Through your explanation, I know it increases fuel while a tune increases fuel and does something to the timing.

If you watch one of their videos, the woman with the 8 MPG Freightliner claims she will not go over power level 3, saying the power is so great on power level 3 she basically fears she would damage the engine going further.

I'm very impressed with both PDI and Pittsburgh Power from what I've read about both. From what I've gathered, it seems for tuning PDI might be the way to go. I just want some straightforward non bias information if anyone has it, I too am just as curious as all of you. I did read some past threads dealing with bad consequences of the PP Box on the dyno. Thanks.

For older Detroits there are a couple of better and cheaper guys doing ECM programming, Erich and someone else. Do a search.
