Don't listen to the dealer. THEY can't turn it up because they have to conform to the EPA standards. My dealer told me that 550 was the max on my Cat when I bought it and 625 required new pistons\top turbo ect. Today at 700hp to the wheels it runs better than it ever has, water never get's hot and pyro never gets over 900.
Keep in mind most of the mechanics at these dealers ONLY know what they learned in their Cummins/Cat/Detroit classes and trust me "performance" was NOT part of those classes.
Have Mr.Haney flash it with a PDI tune or buy a BullyDog and as most have found out your only regret would be not doing it sooner.

You make the 2nd that I have heard that has had good success with the PP. But I know of more that would like to choke Bruce.
I have a PDI tune. I love its adjustability and control but I dont have to mess with extra knobs and switches. I can control it with pedal on the floor its the 1 to the right of the brake pedal. As much power as the 7 on PP but you dont have to be on constant watch for pyro melt down.

I usually pickup a copy of the Moving On paper every time I see it, Bruce has a column in there. He may have trucks coming out of shop making plenty of power, but he is clueless to the details of what his changes are doing to the combustion process. Stuffing more fuel/air into an engine will net more power; but it's injection timing that really benefits efficiency.
Most of what comes out of his mouth is old wive's tales and little better than what you'd hear on the CB. An example: "There is less stress on a turned-up 750 HP engine going down the road than on a stock 475 HP engine." He claims because, "your not working the engine as close to it's limit," that the engine isn't "working as hard."
Let's look at that: The two engines are mechanically identical; bore/stroke, bearing size, con-rod length, etc. As such, both engines must produce that exact same BMEP (PSI) to generate equivalent horsepower. The two engines are stressing their components identically.
And what passed from Bruce's mouth is BS, and rare indeed is one of his columns w/o some such fallacy pushed out there. -
If the Pittsburgh Power products are not efficient, to bad my CAT powered truck with all the Pittsburgh Power goodies on it is getting over 8.1 mpg with a loaded (79K gross) 48' non-aerodynamic van trailer that kind of go against what we are seeing posted here????
My truck is posted on http://mygauges.com/ as "Dice.s Truck". No BS here and you can see for yourself how to get a CAT 3406E with all the Pittsburgh Power goodies on it over 8.1 mpg that can also turn the box up and beat 99.9% of the fully loaded trucks up any hill. My average for June with dedicated stuff was 8.18 mpg.
The proof is documented.Last edited: Jul 2, 2011

If you bought it before Jan 2010...........it's a PDI manifold that was ported by Full Tilt Performance and sold to PP to resell as their own. PP doesn't have many products of there own. The crankshaft balancer is manufactured by Balance Masters. The harmonic damper is manufactured by Vibratech.........the list goes on......even the box is someone elses product and tied up in legal mumbo jumbo so that it can't be sold but through PP
Some of your good fuel mileage could be from the fact that your engine never got flashed with a LOW NOX Software Kit from CAT
I have to give the man credit where credit is due............he's one hell of a salesman and learned early on to push his hype to make large amounts of money
I like my way of doing it...........1300 Hp with the adjustablity all controlled by my right foot. You build a motor with a PP box that will produce the same amount of power and not self destruct on a dyno, it will be the first one ever built in the country. I'd even pay for the dyno run to be able to watch itSL3406 and Bob's Buzz Thank this. -
Here is my PP next to my old stock one:
I am still very satisfied with my adjustable PP box and other PP products no matter who makes them for them. I am sure PDI doesn't make everything they sell either and besides who cares who manufacturers it as long as they stand behind it. That part I have had no problem with PP. -
I'm not saying the other products PP sells are bad, PDI and PP both sell the same products at times. PP does some things I don't agree with when it comes to building HP and fuel mileage. The PP box is a major one for me, I've seen too many guys hurt motors with them. The PP Holset turbo conversion on CAT engines is another......guys lose Hp and fuel mileage with it compared to other turbos on the market for the same HP levelBob's Buzz and SL3406 Thank this. -
I have the newer turbo by PP and not the Holset on mine. -
Spent BIG MONEY, and I mean BIG MONEY at PP. Promised him his C15 was capable of 7+ MPG if they did everything they said.
ain't happened yet, not even close... His truck does make excellent power and runs like a sewing machine. He just ain't getting the MPG he was promised, and that was the entire reason for spending that money.
Then again *Sigh* I don't think there is a bigger waste of money than a PDI intake manifold. What a total waste of cash that was for me.
