that's exactly the point i was trying to make before the whole thing went so horribly wrong. it's when you leave it up to the gps to "spit out" a rout for you that you get into trouble...sometimes. I'm "suggesting", that you take the time to plan the rout in the gps the same way you do with maps and pads. but instead of it taking 15-20min it only takes about 5min. your doing essentially the same thing as conventional planning it's just faster and safer then letting the gps make all the decisions.

That being said, I do on occasion use mapquest or google maps to see where I am headed and get a feel for the area. That's the closest to a GPS that I will get! -
