I was told at my local Ohio apportioned plates spot that I had to get all 48 and then over the next 2 years your IFTA filings will reflect where you run and THEN you can choose which States ...so on the 3rd year you can pick and choose....

They kinda also explained that choosing fewer States doesn't save you money....it just determines which States get the money. So 2k between 48 States and 2k between 5 States is still 2k.

I am annoyed that I HAD to pay for Cali and I can't even go there! And it was one of the expensive States.....like $84.00 bones or something...

Correct,it all has to add up to 100% of your apportion,no matter how many states you run.Yes,try and keep your Cal. estimate low,it is expensive one.So are a few others, you can ask the people at the DMV the expensive ones, keep those percentages lower.I ran a Md. tag,the DMV would help me with my estimates to try and keep the price down.I would tag for 48,but lots of years I didn't go in all. Then the next year you can estimate the ones you didn't use. This why no two individual tag prices will be the same.

Don't think you can call and they will tell you that to many variables to tell someone on a phone call.

After two years you can keep it as low as you want but the states have a certain amount you have to pay if it's lower doesn't matter.

True, but you unknowingly don't want to estimate high on the expensive ones and throw money away.

No 100% O/O....I really didn't know where I would be running and I probably said something like that to them....so they hit me with all 48.

But I do remember saying no Cali no way and they still charged me.

Also,if you want to haul over 80k on permits, there are a bunch of states that require you to increase your weights on your apportioned registration. This will also increase your costs a good bit.
