I went to my hand specialist today, after he was so generous to prescribe a mighty psudo opiate pain relief medication for me. Ahhhh, finally I can sleep.....
He is confident that I'm healing, but did order an MRI. There is something going on in there that defies xrays. The wounds are closed. I just know that my hand will never be the same....nerves, ligaments, etc.
Thank you all for your concern and kind words. A huge part of this was the angst and depression of a serious injury. I'm an old gal, and the hope of a life after such an injury was dim, at best....I have decided to seek professional help at my own expense to make sure that I not only heal on the outside, but the inside, too. Truck driving has been my life for now seven years and I can't see myself doing anything else, but am not sure I can still do my job.
As always, I'll keep those interested informed of my recovery.

Glad you are with a speciallist and that things are healing... You can see a Psyciatrist on work comps dime - since the 'trama' is effecting you... unless you don't want those records part of your WC claim. However - it might help your case if you are going after retraining or any permanent disability... just a thought...
CondoCruiser, bullhaulerswife and formertaxidriver Thank this. -
I would stay away from the real strong pain meds if you can. Like Oxycotin and Exocotin. The doctor put me on them and I couldn't handle taking them. They definately subside the pain but also make you feel like you are drunk or something.
I've been taking Hydrocodone which aren't near as bad. My doctor is switching me to a new nerve medicine now. Hopefully that'll work and I'll be one step closer to going back to work.
You have an injury like that, cold weather doesn't help matters any. Try to keep your hand warm especially when you go outside. A MRI will definately reveal what a Xray can't. I hope you feel better and heal fully.formertaxidriver and Lady K Thank this. -
Lady K, I wish I could...that is something that Cali thinks is a good idea, but where I was injured (KS) it is not. Already advised by council and Dr that I have to pay out of pocket for it. Not that it matters, my depression is getting somewhat debilitating and I consider the fact that I am able to address it and pay for it a privilege. I'm doing what I can to keep my emotional head above water and think they may cut me loose back to work sooner than I think....
Don't ever get hurt at work in Kansas....they really don't care. There is a dollar amount associated with hand injuries up to and including decapitation of extremity. $75k. Shocking, yeah? If you loose your hand that's all you'd be expected to collect. Tort reform, my #####. -
I hear you, brother. I was lucky, my Dr got me to the Tramadol, no ill effects, and works quite well. Even can drive without concern (my 4 wheeler, anyway!) I hear you about the opioids, I already lived that life many years ago and won't go there again, I made a promise to myself.
Cold weather? Yeah, it's sucking very badly. Barometric pressure changes, too. I'm planning to move back home to Hawaii. That's the ticket. Thank you for your kindness! You and Lady K. And my buddy Wargames....Lady K Thanks this. -
Well I'm glad you 1) realize you need help and 2) are taking the step to get the help you need!
Sending continued good thoughts and healing prayers your way!!
