i nary believe in second chances, and he'd be fired, i could care less about him, if he had cost me money to go and shag the equipment.
i too have been pulled over by cops, mostly however in my pesonal vehicle for going a "wee bit" fast.
happened to me at least 4 times....!!....(i'm a slow learner myself)
all the time, yes ALL THE TIME, when the cops asked me how fast i was going, then they tell me the speed limit, i'd admit i was wrong and should HAVE KNOWN BETTER, especaily with my CDL, and that i was sorry for not paying attention.
I WAS ALWAYS let off with a warning......!!
when i was in oxen cart driving school, one of the MANY lessons we were taught was that 99.9 % of the times, you're troubles START...when you open your mouth"...
i always treat the law people with respect, i was brought up that way....to RESPECT people.
and doing so, got me out of tickets..Lepton1, Cattleman84, x1Heavy and 3 others Thank this. -
I can definitely say with complete confidence that not all cops are bad. This was before I got my CDL back in 2016. I was pulled over for speeding 70 in a 55 in my homestate of NC. When the state trooper asked did I know why I was pulled over, I replied Yes sir I do. I was going 70 in a 55 zone and should not have done it. There is no excuse for it. He said ok and got my license and registration and went back to the patrol car. Fifteen minutes later, he came back and told me that was writing me a ticket for 64 in a 55 to avoid a mandatory court appearance and to let me pay it off. He was really cool about the situation and told me that most people would just lie through their teeth when getting pulled over. I replied, well sir if I know I have done wrong, I will admit to it. I also said that I have a heavy lead foot too. He told me that he had a 1970 Challenger with a 413 Max Wedge engine swapped in and we could go to a drag strip to help me with my lead foot. I took him up on it and since then I have had the utmost respect for cops. I just happened come across one that day that was a good fellow and he taught me a valuable lesson. When you fess up to your wrong doings, things are right much easier on you. I know this is a long reply but I felt that it was relevant to the original post.
x1Heavy, PoleCrusher, Feedman and 1 other person Thank this. -
I think your story teaches a fundamental lesson all drivers would do well to remember. Don't argue with cops unless 1) you are right, and 2) you can win.

The reason for making this thread was to tell newbies you don't have any power to argue with the cops.
That said .... OK update time.
The driver is terminated, I couldn't take his crap over this, he lied to me what happened when I talked to him at 10am, he seemed to forgotten that the truck does have cameras that do record sound.
I would love to post the video but lawyer guy said no way. BUT take my word for it, it is funny ... he just could not shut up about being pulled over, he never let the cop tell him about the lights.Right out the gate he is yelling and screaming out the window about being pulled over.
Nothing in the truck that he or I needed to worry about, however it wasn't as clean as I like them to keep the trucks, pretty much needs a good wash down with a power washer. I offered to the cops to do a full inspection of the sleeper but they declined, they didn't look at the logs.
The arresting officer is cool, he said the idiot (my words) didn't want to listen and it was all about the trailer and the lights, nothing more. He even was going to compliment the driver for driving at a reasonable rate under the speed limit and using proper signals but it never got to that point.
His wife had it with him, she came by the house a little bit ago to collect some personal stuff, she said to dump the rest in the garbage, and that's what I did.
She said he will be served papers, said it is a long time coming with this BS, this is his 9th job in the past 14 years that he got canned from and every time, it was something that was stupid. The last time he was part of a Rail crew inspecting rails and he got mad at one of his co-workers making a joke about trains and just walked away from the job, no one knew what happened, the cops were called and a search was on. His wife said he just appeared at the front door telling her he lost his keys, and of course she said, he "lost" all his money. When he applied at my place, he did really well on the road test, everything came back with a clean record. I NEVER had an issue with the guy until now and he would pitch in when someone had issues near by. Great with customers BUT as his wife said, sometimes something would accumulate and boom! he would go off the deep end.
The truck will be cleaned, I already have a driver for it, and life will go on.
By the way, the guy can't make bail and I am sure not helping him out. His wife canceled all the credit cards in the middle of the night because she said if she doesn't do something about him now, it will never get done. -
I have met good ones great ones and bad ones alike. I have also argued a point several times when I know I am right, more so with dot than leo, and won every time when I make them show me in the book. It sometimes takes a while for them to find it, so be prepared to wait. I even had one smart alek dot apologize to me after I got tired of his remarks and went off on him, proving him wrong, one and only time I have had one apologize for wasting my time.
I will always show respect to start with, how we proceed is up to them, I will always tell them I know I broke the law if I did, but I also don't need a lecture.
I have never been arrested , but have gone to court and on to jail for refusing to pay a fine I was not guilty of. I will never pay them if I am not guilty, period.
That said I had a driver get arrested for an unpaid traffic ticket in Co. I paid the 1000 bail to get him released and did not truly belive that he had paid the ticket, until several years later.
I was ticketed by the dot on 70 west of denver, one of them funny deals, driver you need to shift that load, do you happen to know where I can get someone to bring a forklift out here on sunday. Yep sure thing, just BACK over there to that building and he will come out and fix this for you, hmmm, that is prtty handy isn't it,
Yep it sure is and he makes money too. lol
Anyway, I paid the fine that day, a year later I had a warrant out for me in Co, I proved I paid the fine, probably 10 times, they always admitted I paid my fine, even sent me a letter stating I did, but still refused to with draw the warrant. I had to carry a copy of that letter in my truck for several years. -

So the moral is? “If you pay above average wages you get above average drivers and if you don’t you don’t”
